While the parades have had to be cancelled, Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, can certainly be celebrated as the time of feasting between Jan. 6, the Epiphany (Three Kings’ Day when the Kings arrived to see baby Jesus), and the last hurrah before the season of Lent and repentance before Easter. Aside from amazing dining in general, King Cakes are available in just about every style imaginable (including boudin-stuffed), from local bakeries and restaurants. MARDI GRAS - WEST BATON ROUGE

Find Mardi Gras Bling!

Even if the parades are cancelled, you can still enjoy some Mardi Gras bling at the Queen Zulu Exhibit at the West Baton Rouge Museum. Rose A. Lee Roché from Port Allen made history in 1996 when she became the first queen not from New Orleans to preside over the famous Mardi Gras krewe. See memorabilia, including never-exhibited costume sketches from famous designer Anthony Colombo and his wife Shirley.

Pop-Up Markets, such as the Galentine’s Day Sip & Shop at Court Street Café February 6, are a great way to get access to local crafters, bakers, and other fresh finds! This event will feature Mia Rose & Be Kind Body Products, and Dipuma Farms selling these un-BEAR-ably cute breads.

Go out and support small business, and be on the lookout for other opportunities to shop local on the Westside!
