JULY 2021

While there won’t be the traditional festivities on the fourth, the West Baton Rouge Riverfront is still the prime location for watching the fireworks! Bring your blankets or lawn chairs and plan to picnic on the levee or dine local at nearby restaurants. You can even spend the weekend on the Westside, taking in all the attractions and dining; celebrating your independence with travel!

Feed Your Soul!

Fresh produce abounds during the summer, and what better way to take advantage of local pickings than at roadside Farmers’ Markets! Bayou Poydras will begin bi-weekly markets July 3^rd, so you can get some watermelon to take down to the levee (or to your backyard!). They will also have baked goods, gifts, jams & jellies, goat soap, and other local treasures!

Build a Boat!

This summer, sign up to build a wooden boat with master boat builder, Ron Blue, through the West Baton Rouge Museum. Learn about the rich tradition of boat building and water safety while finishing a 4x8 foot pram style boat that will seat two adults. Christen your watercraft after two weekends of building. Spots are limited; register for these workshops today!

WESTSIDE WORKSHOP

Beat the Heat!

We beat the heat under the shade of a huge oak tree, dipping into a cool pool or other body of water, or dining on an amazing concoction of shaved ice and sugary syrup! Known as snowballs or snow cones, these amazing treats can be served up plain, stuffed, covered, or candied!

Whether you’re looking for the cutest farm animals or fresh farm produce, Poydras Bayou Farms is the location for a new farmers market every other Saturday/ They have shared their delicious recipe for muscadine jelly. Try your hand at making, or pick up some already made!
