Celebrate Healthcare Foodservice Week 2022!
|
|
Foodservice workers do many important things such as prepare nutritious meals for our patients, residents, surgery patients, outpatients, associates, and visitors.
- They make special texture modifications as needed so those that have swallowing or chewing issues can eat better.
- They provide special supplements and snacks as ordered to ensure their nutritional needs are being met.
- They help the patients and residents to stay nourished and give them something to look forward to three times a day.
- They visit with our residents and help encourage intake to ensure nutritional needs are being met.
- They prepare us meals (at work) so that we don't have to pack our meals if we don't want to.
- They do the everyday cleaning, dishwashing, food prep, food serving, and putting stock away to assure a smooth service.
Our Dietary associates provide a vital service to our organization, and we are grateful to all of them. Please thank your foodservice peers for the work they do to help "enrich the life and health of the people we serve."

Emma Monteleone named Food Service Employee of the Year by KHCA
The Kansas Health Care Association recognized St. Marys Manor's Emma Monteleone as Food Service Employee of the Year at its 2022 Annual Convention and Tradeshow in Mulvane on September 30.
Emma was nominated by the Manor for her compassion and caring when working with residents, their families, and co-workers. She has exhibited dedication and enthusiasm and has elevated the profession of long-term care by demonstrating genuine care and affection for residents. After clocking out, she regularly stays to visit or play games with residents. If you've ever been in a room with Emma, you know that she brings a ray of sunshine wherever she goes! She truly delivers the WOW experience every day.
Emma is pictured above with Carol Wells, St. Marys Manor Dietary Manager, at the awards ceremony. Emma was invited on stage for remarks and represented herself and CHCS well.
Congratulations, Emma, and well deserved! We are so glad to have you at CHCS.

Physician Assistant Week is October 6-12!
|
|
National Physician Assistant Week is celebrated every year from October 6-12. PAs are broadly trained in a wide spectrum of conditions and tasks. Their education focuses on patient education, preventive care, and acute and chronic care management. They can help patients improve their health and quality of life.
National PA Day was first celebrated on October 6, 1987, in honor of the 20th anniversary for the first graduating class of PAs. October 6 is also the birthday of the profession's founder, Eugene A. Stead, Jr., MD.

Get around to your mammogram
|
|
Hallie Beardsley was 42. She was a busy single mom to her two kids, and although she knew she needed to get a mammogram, she says she just “hadn’t gotten around to it.”
She’s glad she finally made the time, because the mammogram revealed a large mass that proved to be a rare type of breast cancer. After treatment and recovery four years later, another mammogram probably saved her life when it found a fast-growing tumor that was a different kind of cancer entirely.
Today, Hallie is thankful that she is here to be a mom to her sons, and she encourages other women to get their mammograms on time.
“Don’t ever think it’s not going to be you. You need to get your mammogram! I’m cancer-free twice now because I got the mammogram and they caught my cancer early,” she said.
