Pat Hartwich to retire from St. Marys Manor
|
|
Pat Hartwich, RN, has worked at CHCS for nearly 30 years. Please join us in wishing her well as she retires at the end of the month!
Pat graduated from nursing school at the University of St. Francis in Wichita in 1964. She began working at St. Marys Manor in 1992 as an evening charge nurse. Approximately one year later, Pat began training with Donna Tarbutton to take over as the MDS (Minimum Data Set) Nurse. Pat worked as the MDS Nurse as well as the Director of Nursing for a time before deciding to concentrate on MDS, but she has continued in the role of interim DON on many occasions when we have been without one.
Pat has two sons, Brent (who is married to Rachael) of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and August Hartwich of Onaga, Kansas. She also has two grandchildren, Tyler and Reese (Brent and Rachael's children).
Pat is looking forward to having more free time in her retirement but still plans to provide RN coverage at the Manor occasionally as well as volunteer so she can come and spend time with the residents.
A reception will be held in Pat's honor on June 29 from 2:30 to 4:30 at St. Marys Manor. Associates, board members, and family are welcome to attend. Join the celebration if you can!
Thank you for your dedication, Pat, and for the excellent care you have provided to our residents!

Greater Giving established the CHCS HealthCare Scholarship in 2019 using generous gifts from the Chandler Rowe and Hal Falkenstein memorials. Chandler Rowe’s daughter, Cynthia Steele, and granddaughter, Laura Bottom, worked for CHCS for many years. Hal Falkenstein was Chair of the Community Hospital District #1 Board of Directors for decades. The scholarship was created with $20,000 in 2019, and thanks in part to donations from CHCS employees, the fund has grown to $38,000.
We are growing the fund to be able to award a scholarship to a senior from each of our clinic towns. Each spring, two $500 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors who live in CHCS clinic towns and are pursuing a career in healthcare. This year’s recipients are Melanie Landolfi from St. Mary’s Academy and Mariah Broxterman from Frankfort High School.
Both recipients sent thank-you notes to CHCS and CCF. Please see below. Thank you for your generosity! If you'd like to donate to the scholarship fund through Greater Giving, learn more here.

Dear Community HealthCare System and Caring Community Foundation,
I cannot thank you enough for awarding me this generous scholarship. I plan to attend Highland Community college in the fall of 2021 to acquire my associates in science. I will then attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and major in nutrition, health, and exercise sciences. After completing my bachelor’s, I will attend Washburn or the University of Kansas to work towards a doctorate in physical therapy. After earning my doctorate, I would like to return to a rural area to help our underserved communities. This generous scholarship will aid me in paying for my many years in college. I am beyond grateful and excited about this kind gift. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Mariah Broxterman

Dear Community HealthCare System and Caring Community Foundation,
I would like to express my most sincere gratitude for the reception of the scholarship money. I am truly honored to be the recipient and I now have even more drive to give my all to my educational pursuits because of it. I am currently attending a summer course at the Washburn Institute of Technology to complete my last prerequisite for nursing school. I have applied for the August LPN program. After I complete my LPN license I plan on furthering my career in nursing with a RN degree from Washburn University. Thank you again for the support and aid that the scholarship has lent to enabling the furthering of my education.
Kindest regards,
Melanie Landolfi

Summer festival and parade season is upon us!
Thanks to a rowdy bunch of CHCS associates for representing us well at Frankfort Summerfest last weekend (see below for photos). Jolene Wessel, RN, and Derek Surdez, physical therapist, won the Pedal Tractor Pull for the second straight year (see photo at right). Way to go!
More parades are coming soon! Parades are an excellent opportunity for CHCS to shine in our communities. If your community has an event or parade coming up soon, we can provide our parade banner for walkers to carry as well as stadium cups and candy to distribute to the crowd. Walkers should wear a CHCS T-shirt (any color).
More opportunities are below--please help if you can!
-
Havensville Independence Day Celebration: June 26. Contact Jill Greene to volunteer as a walker.
-
St. Marys Independence Day Parade: July 3. Contact Shannon Heim or Liz Murphy to volunteer as a walker.
-
Jackson and Pottawatomie County Fair Parades: More details to come.
Thanks to all who represent CHCS at these fun community events. We appreciate your efforts!
