Celebrate the Fourth of July by volunteering!
Salute America by volunteering! VLB is in great need of volunteers for our Monday Help Desk the week after the 4 th  of July:
  • Monday, July 8th, morning – Civil Help Desk at the Jefferson County Courthouse, room 540 

We also are seeking volunteers for our other Help Desks the week after the holiday:  
  • Tuesday, July 9th, morning – Homeless Help Desk at Cooper Green Hospital, 5th floor

  • Wednesday, July 10, morning – Domestic Relations Help Desk at the Domestic Relations Courthouse

  • Thursday, July 11th morning – Civil Help Desk at the Jefferson County Courthouse, room 540

  • Friday, July 12th morning – Domestic Relations Pro Se Docket at the Domestic Relations Courthouse

Can you take a pro bono case?
This single dad seeks a guardianship over his daughter so he can manage her medical care. He recently took her to an appointment and learned he could not talk to the doctor because his daughter is now 25 and considered an adult. The dad is her sole caregiver and has been for her entire life. He receives food stamps and also works cleaning up after construction jobs so he can afford his daughter’s medical expenses. I can help!
Case status:
  • Dad came to VLB Help Desk and qualifies for services
  • Dad has note from doctor regarding need for guardianship
  • Dad is well organized

VLB added value:
  • All documents can be provided to attorney 
  • Connection to attorney mentor
This client, who is currently living at Brother Bryan Mission, is working hard to get his life back on track. He seeks a fresh start with a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.  I can help!
Case status: 
  • Client has already been screened at the VLB Bankruptcy Help Desk and qualifies for a Chapter 7
  • Client is well organized and has all his documents
  • Client has letter of support from social worker at mission

  • Connection to attorney mentor experienced in bankruptcies.
