March 2019
Join us in Boise for our annual Idaho PTA Convention!

The 114th Idaho PTA Convention is just 6 short weeks away!  This is a wonderful opportunity to network with other PTA leaders and learn leadership skills.  Get the training you need to more effectively run your PTA, and talk to vendors who can help your PTA with fundraising and other services.  You will also learn skills to help you in your life away from PTA!  Come join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our students, teachers, and PTA units throughout the state.  Remember that this is a valid PTA unit expense.  Be sure to get your registration in early... and this year, you can do it all online!  Just click the link below.  Remember to book your hotel room by clicking the link below for our special PTA rate.  We will be voting in a brand new Board of Directors, and I can't wait for you all to meet them and ask them questions!
Idaho PTA just spent the day at the Capitol reaching out to legislators and voicing our concerns about proposed legislation and issues that impact our children.  Idaho PTA is proud to be a voice for all kids!  Please let us know if there are issues that concern you.  I am really proud of all our members, local leaders and state leaders for their hard work.  You are the heroes I celebrate each day! Thank you for all you do!

See you soon!

Featured Speaker:

Jim Accomando, National PTA President

James L. Accomando was elected as the 55th President of the National PTA ® Board of Directors at the June 2017 National PTA Convention. Jim has been engaged in fulfilling the Mission of PTA since his oldest child began Kindergarten. For the past 18 years, he has volunteered at every level and has had the pleasure of being President of his child's High School PTA, the District's PTA Council and the State of Connecticut Parent Teacher Association. Jim believes that family and community engagement is one of the key strengths of PTA in providing equity and quality in our educational system today. He advocates to look beyond the school community to develop partnerships with other educational stakeholders in order to further the Mission of the Association.
In 2012, Jim was instrumental in the Snow Flakes for Sandy Hook Elementary School Healing Initiative and the fundraising of $1.1 million dollars to support potential mental health issues within the Sandy Hook school community. He is also actively engaged in other civic and youth programming as a coach, Boy Scout leader and church leader.
Jim is a small business owner, the parent of two public school educated children and the husband of a public school teacher.

Questions about casting your ballot? Information for local units about voting at Convention

A voting delegate is appointed by each Local Unit.  A voting
delegate represents the Local Unit's viewpoint on each vote.  A voting
delegate must seek direction from the Local Unit on how the delegate should
vote on each matter at convention.  It will be imperative that each unit's
delegate(s) review and discuss the Local Unit Idaho PTA Bylaws changes up for vote  with their members so that each delegate will be able to vote ON BEHALF OF  THEIR UNIT during the general session at convention.  This applies to all  voting matters presented during convention.

Voting delegates vote with the
consensus of a unit, only after the members of the unit have given their
say.  A delegate represents the vote of an entire unit.

The number of local unit delegates are decided upon membership numbers.  Every Idaho unit automatically has two delegates. (President and one additional member)  For every additional 25 members, that unit is entitled to one additional voting delegate.  Please contact the Idaho PTA State Office if unsure how many delegates your local unit is allowed.

Attached is a credential card that must be filled out by the local unit president in order for the delegate to be allowed to vote at the state convention.  Please be sure to print it, have the president fill it out and bring it plus your membership card to convention.  This is a requirement in order to vote!

Are you ready for Local Unit Elections?

Most Local PTA Units hold their elections in March, so their newly elected officers can attend Idaho PTA Convention in April.

The length of your officers' terms and the officer positions to be filled are specified in your unit's Standing Rules, and details for holding elections can be found in the Local Unit Uniform bylaws.  For more details, visit our website at  http://idahopta.org/bylaws-and-standing-rules/
