Virginia wineries are celebrating America's Independence with Red, White and Blue events and activities. We have some celebrating to do ourselves as the Official Virginia Wine Lover™ marks year #14 promoting and supporting Virginia wines. Thanks to our subscribers for your continuing interest and support.

July's featured festival is the Purcellville Wine and Food Festival   on July 13.  Check out July Events for a list of festivals and other special activities and happenings. July is a great month to "go on the road" traveling Virginia's byways and highways from the mountains to the shore, stopping at wineries and breweries along the way.

The Winery at Bull Run is Winery of the Month. It's a picturesque and historic destination and the tasting room is a favorite of Wine Lovers. We invite you to visit Bull Run and to enter the Sweepstakes below for their amazing "Historical Tour & Tasting".

THE WINERY AT BULL RUN
Rich in History and Crafting Fine Wines

The Winery at Bull Run is a working farm vineyard focused on crafting fine Virginia wines while paying tribute to the history and preservation of 19th century pastoral Fairfax County. As the closest winery to Washington, D.C., it offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life to a simpler time-where you can relax in the beautiful Virginia countryside with family and friends and sip delicious, award-winning Virginia wine.

The Manassas Battlefield Park is the neighbor to the north of the Winery, so don't be surprised if Civil War reenactors occasionally pass by for tasting events. The Winery has a small Civil War museum with actual relics dug from the property. There are also historical markers throughout the property documenting both the encampments and movements involved in the property's portion of the Bull Run battlefield.

In Memoriam
David Leslie King, King Family Vineyards
David King passed away on May 2 after a long battle with cancer. With his wife Ellen, they established King Family Vineyards in Crozet in 1998 and built it into one of Virginia's best known and most honored wineries. King was a strong advocate of Virginia's wine industry and a multi-term chair of the Virginia Wine Board. He was an avid polo player and an experienced pilot who used his skills to benefit the Albemarle County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Division.

"Virginia is for Lovers" was created 50 years ago, and it's become one of the most beloved and iconic slogans in the world. While it has meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people over the years, one thing remains the same: LOVE. In 2019, Virginia is celebrating the brand with special experiences across the state, local events, programs and special offerings, that will last for 50 days through August 10. www.virginia.org

Barboursville Vineyards 2018 Allegrante Rosé
This classic and vivacious Old World Rosé has been awarded the Gold Medal at 92 Points at the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. It was a popular sensation at this spring's equally valuable proving grounds, the Mount Vernon and Norfolk Town Point wine festivals. It is a vibrant statement of the structural virtues of a fine rosé without oak, a blend of Syrah and Nebbiolo.  www.bbvwine.com
