Start with NACM Business Credit Services
Laura McMillan, President
| | |
Why did you get involved with NACM?
Maybe you had just been handed responsibility for credit management and weren’t quite sure where to start. Maybe you were trying to collect on a difficult account. Maybe you wanted to learn from people who had already solved the challenges you were facing.
I recently completed a 12-week course focused on membership organizations. One idea kept coming up throughout the class: most people join an association because they have a problem they need help solving.
| | | |
This rings true to me because NACM Business Credit Services exists to help members solve problems.
I’ve heard members say:
- “NACM BCS helped me learn credit management when I was thrown into the role.”
-
“NACM BCS introduced me to a tool that saved my company a tremendous amount of money.”
- “NACM BCS helps me stay current on what’s happening in the credit profession.”
Every one of those stories has something in common. A member faced a challenge, and NACM helped them find a solution.
That isn’t by accident. It’s by design.
In fact, nearly everything we do is centered around helping members solve problems.
We help you build knowledge.
Whether it’s a webinar on AI, bankruptcy, bonds, customer vetting, or our upcoming July 15 webinar on Personal Guarantees, our goal is to give you practical information you can use immediately. We also offer online classes in topics like Excel and Financial Management to help you continue developing professionally. And if there’s a topic you’d like us to offer, we want to hear about it.
We help you work smarter.
From Experian and D&B reports to fraud prevention tools, UTA payment processing, Billfire automation, and collections services, we work to connect you with solutions that reduce risk, improve efficiency, and strengthen your company’s bottom line.
We help you build connections.
Some problems are best solved by talking with someone who’s been there before. That’s why we create opportunities to connect with other credit professionals, introduce you to industry experts, and help strengthen the commercial credit community through A/R data reporting participation and collaboration.
I am concerned that some members may not realize everything that’s available to them through NACM.
So, here’s my encouragement.
The next time you’re facing a challenge—whether it’s designing a credit app, looking for an automation tool, collecting a difficult account, improving a process, finding training for a new employee, or simply figuring out where to start—don’t try to solve it alone.
Start with NACM Business Credit Services.
If we don’t have the answer ourselves, there’s a good chance we know someone who does. That’s one of the greatest strengths of an association like ours.
Helping members solve problems isn’t just something we do. It’s why we exist.

This summer, NACM BCS is proud to participate in Food Lifeline’s annual Food Frenzy competition, and we invite our members to join us in making a difference for families throughout Western Washington.
Food Frenzy is a friendly community competition that brings together businesses and organizations to support Food Lifeline’s mission of feeding people experiencing hunger today while working to end hunger tomorrow.
The following activities will gain points in the competition for NACM BCS during the month of July. Please join in and help us out!
Join NACM BCS staff, members, and friends on Monday, July 21, from 1:3—3:30 p.m. as we volunteer at the Food Lifeline warehouse in South Seattle. Together, we’ll help sort and package food that will be distributed to food banks throughout the region.
Whether you come by yourself, bring coworkers, or make it a family outing, your time will have a direct impact on our community. Volunteers age 10 and older are welcome. Please email Erica Whitford at ericaw@nacmbcs.org to sign up.
Help us fill the shelves by donating canned and packaged food items throughout July. Donations can be dropped off at the NACM BCS office Tuesday-Thursday, or you can bring your items to the Credit on Tap event on July 29.
Every can, box, and bag of food helps Food Lifeline support local food banks and the families they serve.
A financial contribution allows Food Lifeline to purchase food efficiently and respond quickly to community needs. Donations of any size make a difference.
Visit our Food Frenzy- Credit for a Cause - giving page and consider making a gift of $10, $25, $50, $100, or whatever amount is meaningful to you.
Who has the cutest pet in the NACM BCS community? Now’s your chance to find out!
Throughout July, we’ll be hosting a Cutest Pet Contest, and every vote equals a $1 donation to Food Lifeline. It’s a fun way to support a great cause while celebrating the furry, feathered, and four-legged family members we all love.
Go see the contestants (entered by members and staff), then go to the Credit for a Cause giving page to vote for your favorites. Encourage your coworkers, family, and friends to join in the fun. Each vote is $1!
Whether you volunteer, donate food, make a financial contribution, vote in the pet contest, or participate in all four, you’ll be helping families throughout our community while supporting Food Lifeline’s important work.
Thank you for helping NACM BCS turn a little friendly competition into meaningful support for our neighbors experiencing hunger.

Our partners at TCL&M offer useful educational material through their regular newsletter. Take a look at this current entry from the most recent newsletter and then consider subscribing to the publication. Click on the title or image below.
In the latest episode of the Credit on the Go podcast series, TCLM’s Bob Shultz sits down with Claire Sandbrook, CEO of Shergroup, for a practical and insightful discussion on one of the most challenging realities facing today’s finance and credit teams: cross-border debt recovery.
For organizations operating globally, unpaid receivables are rarely straightforward. Once a customer defaults across jurisdictions, the issue quickly moves beyond collections and enters a far more complex environment involving legal systems, asset tracing, enforcement strategy, operational coordination, and risk management. This episode explores how companies can approach those challenges with greater structure, visibility, and confidence.

Help Strengthen the Credit Reporting System
We All Depend On
| | |
Every day, credit professionals rely on accurate commercial credit reports to make informed credit decisions. Those reports are only as strong as the data behind them—and that’s where our members play an essential role.
If your company isn’t already contributing your monthly accounts receivable data, we’d love to have you join our growing network of data contributors. Reporting your payment experiences helps build more complete and accurate credit reports, strengthens information available on small businesses, reduces the need for manual reference checks, and ultimately benefits the entire business credit community. Best of all, it’s easy, secure, and free. If you are interested in learning more, email data@nacmbcs.org.
We’re also excited to share that Dun & Bradstreet has launched a new data contribution program. This month, we’ll be reaching out to our current data contributors with information and the documentation needed to authorize sharing your data with D&B, in addition to our existing reporting partners. Please keep an eye out for that email—we’re excited to offer this new opportunity.
Finally, to all of our current data contributors: thank you. Your monthly participation helps create stronger commercial credit reports, supports better credit decisions across the industry, and provides an invaluable service to businesses everywhere. We truly appreciate your partnership and commitment to strengthening the business credit community.

Seattle's Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) will host the Freedom Plane National Tour: Documents That Forged a Nation, a traveling exhibition from the U.S. National Archives bringing nine original Founding-era documents. This eight city tour is in celebration of the nation's 250th anniversary.
Featured documents include an Original Engraving of the Declaration of Independence (1823), the Secret Printing of the Constitution in Draft Form (1787), the Treaty of Paris, and the Bill of Rights.
Inspired by the 1976 Bicentennial Freedom Train, the Freedom Plane connects Americans to the people, principles, and sacrifices that shaped the nation. The tour aims to inspire future generations to uphold the founding ideals.
As the final stop on the national tour, MOHAI will host the Freedom Plane National Tour from July 30–August 16, 2026, offering a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the Pacific Northwest to experience these original records before they return to the National Archive vaults. MOHAI is located at Seattle's South Lake Union Park.
Timed entry tickets are free, thanks to several corporate sponsors. Interest is strong so it is advised to reserve tickets soon. For more information, click on the following:
