PREPARING FOR WORSHIP

Pastor Trudy's Message

Blessings in a manger! One year I was using a magnet board to tell our PDO kids about the Christmas story. When I asked where babies are born they shouted together—MANGER! Something about being in the sanctuary around Christmas makes us set aside the logic part of our brains. We don't snicker or blink when we hear that Jesus, the Savior of the World, the Messiah...was laid in a manger after His birth...even though it is ridiculous on every possible level. Embracing the sheer unlikeliness of this event, the strangeness— is essential for us to understand how earth shattering it is that God chose to enter our world, our human bodies, through Jesus.

God Incarnate, You came to be with us, You came to be part of us. Help us to be surprised by all the ways You show up in our daily lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  • Our hearts and minds to be guided toward God's grace and hope during this season
  • Those who are traveling
  • Those who are hosting

It's Part of Life!

Thursdays @ 7 pm

Series begins January 12

Death and taxes are the only certainties in life...since there are CPA's to help with your taxes, we will do some work together to de-mystify death, funerals, first responders, hospice and palliative care. Mark your calendar!

Making Christmas Brighter

As a result of your generosity, we collected gifts for 10 foster children (through Lutheran Social Services of Illinois) and purchased 103 gift cards for TriCity Family Services in the amount of $2,640. #generouslifeinChrist

End of year giving

Thanks to all who support the sharing of Christ's love with our community through Geneva Lutheran Church! Our first quarter has been strong—thanks to your giving!

As you plan your end of year generosity, here are a few reminders:

  • Online giving is a great way to give and giving from a bank account rather than a credit card can help avoid additional bank fees.
  • Gifts mailed to the church must be postmarked by December 31, 2022 to be included in 2022 giving statements.
  • Stock Donations and Required Minimum Distribution gifts (for those 72 or older) are also a great way to support our ministry. Talk to Lisa in our office.

Thank you for loving and helping our neighbors so beautifully. With your help, ALL of our neighbors got a warm coat for winter, got to join us by bus and felt the love and hope of Jesus.

We are so grateful!

GLC FACES OF FAITH - Children's Christmas Program

Thank you to our Sunday school teachers for their faithful commitment to GLC children through weekly Sunday school and Christmas program coordination. We also want to thank those that helped with the birthday party for Jesus from setup, decorations, serving, and cleanup.

Grateful for these Sunday School teachers! We were able to assemble a lot of them for a photo, but we're missing Crissy Danly, Keith Egly, Chrissy Swanson, Kaitlyn Fels, and Valerie Massie. #generouslifeinChrist

Sunday Schoolers brought the story of Jesus' birth to life as only children can! If you missed it, you can watch the recording on our Youtube channel.

When the little spotted cow saw her family in the crowd she just had to break character and WAVE!

Amy & Todd Steenson gifted us with a beautiful bells duet at all three services. They make it look effortless and what focus they have! Even when a cell phone went off they kept on ringing without missing a beat! #generouslifeinChrist
