Murals Celebration
On Tuesday, August 10, from 6:00 - 7:30 P.M. we invite you to celebrate the work of our two incredible summer mural artists, Flora Johnson and Doro Buch.

This is your chance to connect with them and other women in our community. Come learn about their artistic processes and enjoy some music and refreshments in our garden space. This workshop is open to all who identify as women -- and children are also welcome! Staff and volunteers will wear masks to keep each other safe and we ask you do the same.

UPDATES IN AND AROUND OUR COMMUNITY
The Centre is Now Open for Drop-In Services

As of August 3, 2021, we no longer ask you to book an appointment to visit the Centre!

The doors are open, and we invite you to drop in to visit, get a tea or coffee, or check in with a volunteer for peer support.

Our summer hours are:

Mondays
9:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M
Tuesdays
9:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.
Wednesdays
9:30 A.M. - 8:30 P.M.
Thursdays
9:30 A.M. - 8:30 P.M.

We will continue to be closed Friday - Sunday and on stat holidays.

We will continue to wear masks to keep our community safe and encourage you to also.
Calgary Municipal Ward Poverty Profiles

VCC released Calgary Municipal Ward Poverty Profiles: Check out the interactive map to see details about poverty and key concerns in each of Calgary’s 14 Wards.

This interactive map is designed for citizens and candidates to use as a tool to understand poverty from a ward perspective.
Shaw Birdies for Kids

Once again, we are lucky to be participating in Shaw Birdies for Kids, presented by AltaLink, as a charity partner. Each year, the Shaw Charity Classic crowns one golf champion and over 200 charity winners. If you can, donate to our Girls Programs before August 15 and have your donation matched up to 50%.

Runners Can Support the Women’s Centre Through
the Scotiabank Marathon

Participants will be able to choose between an in-person event on September 19 or the virtual race experience from September 1 to 30.

Participants can view the event schedule and register here and add their names to the Women’s Centre Team located in the list of charities.
Volunteer with the Women's Centre Community
As we move toward our full re-opening plan, we are looking for support from volunteers.

We currently have opportunities for:
  • Basement Organizer
  • Community Connector
  • Food Program Volunteer
  • Peer Support Volunteer

Family Law Workshop
Join us Tuesday, August 17, 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. online for a family law workshop: “Learn your rights in Child Custody & Child Support." This workshop will be led by a volunteer lawyer to understand your rights in child custody and child support.

Girls Walk
On Friday, August 20, 6:00 - 7:30 P.M. you are invited on a walk outside and socially distanced to learn about the issues girls in our Girls Programs care about. This walk will be organized by Girls Lead YYC, with contributions from participants in Girl Power and Girl Force.

All ages and genders welcome! The walk will happen rain or shine, starting at the Women’s Centre (39 4 Street NE). We encourage participants to wear a mask and will have them available if needed.

Girls Summer Programs Continue Throughout August
We have programming for youth in grades 5-12 this year. All girl-identifying individuals are welcome.

Programs offer participants opportunities to build their capacity in leadership and activism, while being part of a supportive community and having fun.

In response to what we have heard from our community, we are offering on-line and blended summer programming (online and in-person). We will provide all supplies, and meals and bus tickets for girls attending in-person programs.

Celebrate the end of the summer with games and a picnic in Rotary Park in Crescent Heights! Snacks and games will be provided by the Women’s Centre. All ages and genders welcome!

Meet us at the Centre at 4:45pm to walk to the park together (it is up a fairly big hill), or meet us at the park – it’s up to you! (617 1 St NE).
Come learn the basics of crochet or bring your own crochet project to work on as we gather to chat, laugh and crochet together!
Explore your funky side and make some tie dye! All supplies will be provided for this in-person workshop at the Women’s Centre.
Learn step by step how to create fruit galette!
