A message from our Chief of Advanced Practice Providers
Dear UCSF APP Community:
As we celebrate National APP Week, September 21–25, 2026 we are honored to recognize the extraordinary contributions of advanced practice providers across UCSF. This year’s national theme, “The Pulse of Progress: APPs Powering Tomorrow,” reflects something we see every day across our organization. APPs are caring for patients and families across the continuum, expanding access to care, advancing clinical practice, educating the next generation, leading teams, contributing to research and innovation, and helping shape how care will be delivered in the future. Across our hospitals, clinics, procedural areas, and specialty practices, nearly 1,000 nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and certified nurse-midwives bring extraordinary expertise, judgment, compassion, and leadership to our patients and communities. Lisa McNey, NP | Legacy Builder Award Hematology, Blood & Marrow Transplant, and Cellular Therapy
Submitted by Ivette Becerra- Ortiz, DNP, MPH, NP, RN, NEA-BC, CPNP-PC
We are proud to recognize Lisa McNey, NP, as a UCSF nominee for the National APP Legacy Builder Award, recognizing APPs whose sustained contributions have created an enduring impact on patient care, professional development, healthcare systems, and the advancement of the APP profession.
For more than 20 years at UCSF, first as an RN and now as an advanced practice provider, Lisa has become a cornerstone of Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant, and Cellular Therapy. Her expertise spans the continuum of cancer care, and her impact extends far beyond her own clinical practice.
Lisa has repeatedly identified opportunities to improve care and then helped build the solutions. After recognizing the importance of survivorship care, she pursued additional expertise and helped establish dedicated survivorship care for patients. She later volunteered to serve as the sole APP provider launching the Cancer Diagnostic Clinic, creating a more timely pathway for patients with concerning laboratory or imaging findings to receive evaluation and access to UCSF care. She also contributes to quality management, clinical standards, palliative care, and initiatives spanning the cancer care continuum.
Perhaps Lisa's greatest legacy, however, can be seen in the people she has developed. Throughout her career, she has taught and mentored APP students, oncology APP fellows, newly hired APPs, nurses, and colleagues. She is described as one of the most sought-after preceptors—generously sharing decades of clinical knowledge while creating an environment in which learners are supported, challenged, and inspired to grow.
Lisa exemplifies what it means to be a Legacy Builder: sustained clinical excellence, programs and improvements that endure, knowledge freely shared, and generations of clinicians whose practice is stronger because of her mentorship.
Congratulations, Lisa, on representing UCSF as a National APP Legacy Builder nominee and on more than two decades of extraordinary contributions to our patients, colleagues, and APP community.

Alix (Ali) Wilson, PA | Emerging Leader Award Pediatric Orthopedics
Submitted by Ivette Becerra- Ortiz, DNP, MPH, NP, RN, NEA-BC, CPNP-PC
We are proud to recognize Alix (Ali) Wilson, PA, as a UCSF nominee for the National APP Emerging Leader Award, recognizing APPs with 6–12 years of advanced practice experience who are demonstrating sustained excellence, leadership, innovation, mentorship, and meaningful impact on their organizations and the APP profession.
As Senior PA Orthopedic Lead, Ali has distinguished herself as an exceptional clinician and an influential clinical, operational, and quality leader. She has developed expertise in scoliosis and hip dysplasia while continuing to improve access and productivity. During her most recent evaluation period, Ali increased clinical visits by 13% and RVUs by 18.1%, while maintaining outstanding patient satisfaction.
Ali’s impact extends far beyond her own clinical practice. She has led improvements in postoperative scheduling and safe fluoroscopy practices and played a pivotal role in Pediatric Orthopedics’ spine quality initiatives, including work that helped achieve FY26 targets for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis transfusion rates and complex spine reoperations. She has also helped lead opioid optimization efforts through interdisciplinary collaboration across UCSF campuses.
Developing others has become another hallmark of Ali’s leadership. Over the past five years, she has built a comprehensive onboarding curriculum for Pediatric Orthopedic APPs, developed standardized training resources, championed a monthly APP education program, and become a trusted mentor to APPs, residents, nurses, physicians, and clinic staff.
Ali brings an equally broad perspective to her work. Her background includes graduate education in public health, clinical research at UCSF, and a longstanding interest in international health, including helping develop public health programs for women and children in Haiti following the devastating 2010 earthquake.
Ali embodies what it means to be an Emerging Leader: clinical excellence coupled with initiative, measurable impact, investment in others, and the ability to turn opportunities for improvement into meaningful and sustainable change.
Congratulations, Ali, on representing UCSF as a National APP Emerging Leader nominee and on the extraordinary impact you continue to make in Pediatric Orthopedics and across our APP community.

Simone Ippoliti, NP | Rising Star Award Department of Pediatric Psychiatry
Submitted by Ivette Becerra- Ortiz, DNP, MPH, NP, RN, NEA-BC, CPNP-PC
We are proud to recognize Simone Ippoliti, NP, as a UCSF nominee for the National APP Rising Star Award, which recognizes early-career APPs who are already making a sustained and meaningful impact through clinical excellence, innovation, leadership, education, advocacy, and mentorship.
Simone was selected to represent UCSF nationally following her recognition as the UCSF APP Exceptional Award recipient for Reducing Barriers & Health Disparities. Her nomination reflects an impact that already extends well beyond individual patient encounters.
Across Pediatric Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Simone provides exceptional care to children, adolescents, and families while coordinating across Primary Care, Adolescent Health, Crisis Response Services, inpatient Behavioral Health consultation, and Outpatient Psychiatry. She is recognized for identifying barriers, developing practical solutions, improving workflows, educating colleagues, and bringing interdisciplinary teams together to ensure patients receive the right care in the right setting at the right time.
What particularly distinguishes Simone is how she leads and cares for others. Her colleagues describe the humility, curiosity, calm, and acceptance she brings to her work and her remarkable ability to build trust with patients and families. She thoughtfully considers culture, identity, socioeconomic circumstances, and lived experience, working to reduce barriers and create more equitable access to care.
Although early in her advanced practice career, Simone is already demonstrating the clinical excellence, systems thinking, compassion, and emerging leadership that the National APP Rising Star Award was created to recognize.
Congratulations, Simone, on representing UCSF as a National APP Rising Star nominee and on your continued commitment to advancing exceptional, equitable care.
