Dear Maria,
During Fiscal Year 2023, Greenlight Family Services completed more than 95 adoptions for at risk children, obtained 45 guardianships for relatives raising their relatives, and provided counseling services for more than 82 college student survivors of sexual harm. Every year, we provide a safety net for the most vulnerable children and families in Illinois.
Last year, one of those vulnerable children was Tobias. As a newborn, Tobias sustained extensive bodily harm and was medically neglected by both of his birth parents. Their parental rights were terminated and Tobias was adopted by his loving grandmother. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, she became frail and was no longer able to care for him. She asked Tobias’ maternal uncle Elijah and his wife Nicole to care for him. Elijah and Nicole were expecting their fourth child but did not hesitate to welcome Tobias, then three years old, into their family. Greenlight stepped in to help. Our Family Development Specialist worked tirelessly alongside the family to ensure that Tobias could be legally adopted a second time. He is now in a loving home and thriving!
We are proud to be the kind of agency that offers hope to those children and families most in need. Today, we are asking you to join us in ensuring a Holiday of Hope for Illinois youth in care. Together, we can continue to make a real difference in the lives of children like Tobias for the next 20 years.
Please give hope today.
