As we celebrate the close of 2019 and look forward to the New Year, I am grateful for Habitat's many accomplishments, which have been supported by you, and so many community members. We are nearing completion of the Los Esteros Court project, in Live Oak, where two homes were completed this year, one of which is gratefully occupied by the new homeowners. The final two homes in this project will be occupied by spring of 2020. Our next project, Rodeo Creek Court, also in the Live Oak area, will break ground in the coming months. This project has been approved for the construction of eleven homes.
My House My Home
, a program that assists senior homeowners age in place by building accessory dwelling units (also known as ADUs and granny flats), we completed another project, making for a total of seven in Santa Cruz. Also, together with corporate partners Kaiser Permanente and Devcon, our volunteers built a greenhouse at Live Oak Elementary School.
Our annual benefit dinner
Hearts & Hammers
raised much-needed funds that will help open doors for new projects in Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties. Our expansion in Monterey County received a boost this year with the inclusion of new Board members from the Salinas area. We also implemented improvements to ReStore Monterey, in Seaside, and ReStore Santa Cruz, which aids to better serve our community through upcycling high-quality furniture, appliances, and building materials.
As we build our team, together with our new Resource Development Director, Betsy Powers, I am excited to lead Habitat for Humanity Monterey Bay into a new phase of growth and increased affordable housing production in 2020. Thank you, most sincerely, for your generous support this past year. Here's to new challenges, collaborations, and accomplishments in the New Year!
