A NATION 250 YEARS IN THE MAKING

This July, our nation marks an incredible milestone, the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. Two and a half centuries ago, a bold idea took root: that freedom was worth fighting for, that ordinary people could shape their own destiny, and that a nation built on courage and conviction could endure. From that moment in 1776 to today, the American story has been written by generations of heroes who stepped forward in moments of uncertainty, conflict, and change to defend the promise of liberty.

For 250 years, service members have carried that promise with them — across oceans, across continents, and across every chapter of our history. They have stood watch in times of peace, fought with unwavering resolve in times of war, and carried the weight of sacrifice so that the ideals declared on July 4th, 1776, could live on.

At Fisher House Kansas City, we are honored to support those who have upheld America’s promise through their service. Every family who walks through our doors represents a thread in the fabric of this nation — a reminder that freedom is not an abstract idea, but a legacy protected by real people with real stories, real courage, and real sacrifice.

As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we celebrate them. We honor the past, stand with those who serve today, and look toward a future shaped by the same spirit that sparked a revolution. Here’s to 250 years of heroes — and to the nation they have built, defended, and loved.

What Happened After the Declaration of Independence?

Independence may have been approved in the summer of 1776, but the ramifications of the Declaration would extend far into the future. The authors had created something that had unintended audiences and unintended consequences that would be felt during the Revolutionary Era and beyond. The immediate goals — a greater sense of unity among revolutionaries and the acquisition of foreign allies — were met, but new goals have since been attached to the Declaration of Independence. Whether these have been met is a question for us all to discuss and debate in the present.

As we reflect on our country’s journey, we pay tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of those who have protected the promise of liberty for two and a half centuries.

National Air Traffic Control Day

This day honors the professionals who ensure the safety of military and civilian aircraft across the nation. Their vigilance and expertise keep our skies secure and support the missions of our armed forces every day.

National Hire a Veteran Day

This day encourages employers to recognize the value veterans bring to the workforce—leadership, discipline, resilience, and mission‑focused dedication. We honor veterans seeking new opportunities and the organizations that support their transition into civilian careers.

Korean War Veterans Armistice Day

On this day, we commemorate the signing of the armistice that ended active combat in the Korean War in 1953. We honor the bravery and sacrifice of the service members who fought in this often‑overlooked conflict and recognize their enduring legacy of defending freedom.

Army Chaplain Corps Birthday

The Army Chaplain Corps has supported soldiers for more than 240 years, offering spiritual guidance, moral leadership, and compassionate care. We honor the chaplains and religious affairs specialists who serve alongside soldiers in every environment and mission.
