Celebrating 30 years as NYS Certified Hospice
Our dedication to the hospice mission began over 35 plus years ago when friends and neighbors banded together to help our founder, Dorothy Savage, care for her husband, Hugh. She so wanted him to be at home with friends and their children nearby in his last days. Dottie and her friends succeeded – Hugh died comfortably at home. Those friends, some of whom still volunteer for hospice today, went on to transform Dottie's personal loss into an enormous benefit for the community. East End Hope for Hospice was founded in 1986.

September 1991, East End Hospice (EEH) became a New York State and Medicare certified hospice; our first patient was admitted September 4. We’ve seen amazing successes, challenges, and changes in the organization and the healthcare industry.

30 years later, we continue to improve lives across Eastern Long Island through expert care, comfort, and compassion for terminally ill patients and their families. Our nurses, aides, social workers, volunteers, and staff care for more than 700 patients; support caregivers, family and friends, during and after the end-of-life journey; and provide grief and bereavement services to more than 250 community members each year.

2021 was a banner year of milestones at EEH, including:
  • 30 years as the region's leading hospice provider
  • 25 years of Camp Good Grief
  • 20 years of brisk sales and funds raised at the EEH Thrift Shop
  • 5 years operating the Kanas Center for Hospice Care, the East End’s only dedicated hospice facility
  • Newly-renamed Zinberg Family Bereavement Center

Our strong foundation and history of providing hospice services on the East End will propel us forward as we care for the increasing number of people in our region living with terminal illness and respond to the unprecedented need for grief and bereavement counseling in our community.

The commitment of our staff, the dedication of our volunteers and the continued generosity of our community will drive our activity as we meet the expanding need for quality, compassionate end-of-life care on the East End.

We’ve built our reputation on expert, compassionate care that puts patients and their loved ones first. Our commitment to our patients and their families as well as to those grieving drives everything we do.
