Celebrating 30 Years of Giving

Dear SAWA supporters,

Today, we celebrate the Syrian American Women's Charitable Association's 30 year anniversary! Since January 25,1993, SAWA's mission has been to provide humanitarian support to the people of Syria. The need for this support became more acute starting in 2011 as the Syrian conflict and refugee crisis began. The Syrian refugee crisis remains the largest refugee and displacement crisis of our time.

Thank you to all of our supporters, many of whom have been with us since day 1! We could not continue on this mission without each of you.

2022 Year-in-Review

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to raise and donate $40,000 this past year! We partnered with other non-profits to provide support for disadvantaged and displaced Syrians as follows:

Educating the Youth

We partnered with Bareeq, a non-profit that is registered in the U.S. and Jordan, to establish a school that serves about 80 children in a camp in Northern Syria in the summer of 2022. Watch this short video from December 2022 for the latest update. You can see other videos on our website:

Humanitarian Support

SAWA joined Bareeq for a winter drive to provide heat and coats to displaced Syrians in refugee camps in Syria. We also provided a donation to Drop of Milk, a local charity in Damascus that is providing support to families in need.

SAWA Fundraising Events

We held two events this year including our Annual Iftar Dinner at the Tysons Corner Marriott, where our supporters enjoyed traditional Syrian food and music and learned more about the causes we were supporting. We raised $31,300 towards educating the youth!

We also held our Holiday Brunch at the Westwood Country Club. We enjoyed taking pictures with Santa, singing carols, and hearing the update on the latest projects. We raised about $4,100 towards a winter drive!

Other donations

Other donations came through PayPal Giving and corporate matching campaigns helping us round out our fundraising to reach $40,000!
