The Urgent Need to Protect Support for Homeless Services
The first six to eight weeks of this year have already been a whirlwind of activity. With ongoing uncertainty from Washington, organizations like Matthew House-Chicago are navigating significant challenges.
As I reflect, we are honored to serve individuals experiencing homelessness and remain committed to making a lasting impact—one person at a time. However, the support that enables us to do this work is now at risk.
What’s at Stake?
The recent actions and executive orders from the White House have placed critical funding for homeless services, including those that support Matthew House-Chicago, in jeopardy. Since the passage of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act in 1987, the homeless response system has relied on federal funding to provide essential services. Any decrease, delay, or elimination of these funds would have devastating consequences, disrupting services, displacing vulnerable individuals, and worsening homelessness in our communities.
How You Can Help
1. Donate Today – Now more than ever, Matthew House needs your support to continue providing critical services. Your individual donations help bridge the gap and ensure we can meet the needs of those experiencing homelessness. Visit our website to give: www.mhchicago.org
2. Use Your Voice – Advocacy is crucial. Contact your legislators in both the House and Senate to urge the immediate release of already-allocated funding for homeless services. Your voice can make a difference in protecting resources for those who need them most.
3.Volunteer: Volunteering isn't just about giving time: it about changing lives. Whether serving meals, donating items from our wish list, mentoring or assisting with programs, every volunteer play a crucial role in helping to stability, dignity, and pathways to housing for those in need.
4.Monetary Donations: Every dollars helps us continue our mission. Give at www.mhchicago.org
Together, we can ensure that no one is left without the support they need. Thank yo for standing with us in this critical time.
With gratitude:
