PVCC Celebrates 50 Years

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) kicked off its 50 year anniversary celebration with a “PVCC is Golden” birthday party on September 27, commemorating the first day of classes in September of 1972. The kick off began a nine-month celebration of PVCC’s evolution and plans for the future. A series of celebratory, reflective and scholarly activities will honor distinctive and innovative elements of PVCC’s approach to education and workforce training, characterized by a unique focus on student access and success, and community wellness and growth. In sharing stories from its past and highlighting excellence in the present – from and about students, staff, faculty, area business partners and community members – PVCC will bring to life the impact and power of education.

PVCC was honored to welcome friends from the past and present to help kick off our 50th Anniversary with events including a "PVCC is Golden" birthday party and a "Big 50" photo. Joining in the festivities were (pictured above from left to right) PVCC SGA President Haden Padilla; Wanda Birckhead Farrar, the first ever student to enroll at PVCC; PVCC Mascot Pouncer the Panther; and PVCC President Jean Runyon. Current students and employees, alumni and friends, and many retired faculty and staff were also in attendance. More great events are on the horizon!
