SLAC celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage

AAPI Dessert Lunch, May 17, 2023

SLAC employees came together in the month of May in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.


On May 7th, CORE ERG organized a tour of Kelley Park & The Viet Museum, ending with a lunch in San Jose's Little Saigon.


And on May 17th, CORE ERG also hosted AAPI Dessert Lunch, a potluck open to all at the lab featuring a wide range of Asian and Pacific Island-inspired foods and beverages.

Military Community ERG | Golden Gate Memorial Day Ceremony

Join the Military Community ERG this Saturday in honoring fallen soldiers and placing flowers at burial sites of unknown soldiers. Flowers and maps will be provided. Learn more.

LGBTQ+ ERG | Pride Month Opening Ceremony

For the second consecutive year, the SLAC LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG) will raise the Pride Flag on June 1 to celebrate the beginning of Pride Month. The flag raising ceremony will take place in front of the Science and User Support Building (B53). This event aims to foster a sense of inclusion and belonging, while celebrating the diversity of our workforce. Learn more.

CORE Science Institute

On June 12-16, SLAC will welcome middle school students for the annual CORE Science Institute Summer Camp. The week-long camp provides an immersive, educational experience with the goal of cultivating a sense of belonging in science to motivate students to explore careers in STEM. SLAC Celebrates Juneteenth

SLAC's DEI+ Office and the CORE Science Institute welcomes the entire lab to the return of Juneteenth at SLAC with a performance by Oakland's Bantaba Dance Ensemble! This event will take place after the CORE Science Institute's Poster Presentation from 12:30-1:30pm as we will be joined by the newly graduated class from the camp.

First Annual ERG Retreat

Join the DEI+ Office for SLAC's first ERG Retreat; creating a space for learning, growth, and community for all Employee Resource Groups and their members. Topics include tips on building your ERG budget, resilience in change management, and aligning your ERG to the lab’s mission. Each ERG will also have the opportunity to present progress updates.

SLAC Reads

SLAC Reads is a book club driven by our ERGs and is open to everyone at the lab. Each ERG selects a book and leads a discussion that provides insight into the unique experiences that have impacted the people who make up our lab community. The DEI+ Office provides a number of free copies (hard copies, audio books and e-books) to employees interested in participating. Join the #slac-reads-book-club Slack channel to learn more.
