Assistant Professor at Emory University’s Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing
Why did you decide to pursue a career in HIV care and research?
My motivation for HIV prevention research is personal. My family, my friends and members of my community have been affected by this disease, and I have decided to dedicate my career to combatting the stronghold HIV continues to have on communities of color.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
It is difficult to only feature one, but my greatest accomplishment in this space is seeing my work implemented in the communities that I serve. To me, that is why we do this thing called research, right? We want to ultimately see it being implemented by the people who motivate the need for the work. Other accomplishments are receiving the distinct
Excellence in HIV Prevention Award from my peers/colleagues at ANAC and my visiting professorship at the Centers for AIDS Prevention Studies at the University of California, San Francisco.
What do you enjoy most about being an ANAC member?
I enjoy the fellowship! There are amazing clinicians and scientists and thought leaders who are ANAC members. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to engage with and collaborate with such brilliance. I also appreciate the opportunities for professional growth and development during the national conference and other programming offered by ANAC. I was the Metro ATL ANAC chapter president in 2020 and am currently the Metro ATL ANAC chapter treasurer. I also currently serve on the national
ANAC research committee.
Anything else you would like your fellow ANAC members to know about you?
Know this…the work has just begun, and I look forward to being on this journey with all of my ANAC colleagues.
