Andrew and Lin Weber’s love for music and community brought them on an unforgettable journey last summer through southern Colorado and northern New Mexico. While visiting friends in Red River, they were invited to see Michael Martin Murphey in concert (with some BBQ on the side) and eagerly said yes.
At the show, amidst the usual t-shirts and merchandise, one item stood out: a guitar with the lyrics to Wildfire, Michael Martin Murphey’s iconic song, written around the edge of its face.
For Andrew and Lin, the guitar immediately felt like a perfect fit for Wimberley’s vibrant music and songwriter community. They purchased it, knowing it could serve a larger purpose. The proceeds supported the Michael Martin Murphey Foundation, which works to preserve the stories of the American West. But the Webers had a greater vision—to bring the guitar back to Wimberley and use it to raise funds for a local nonprofit.
They asked Michael Martin Murphey to sign the guitar, adding the words “Helping Wimberley” on the back. When they told him their intention to donate it rather than keep it, he wrote an additional message: “It is better to give.”
