Paving Pathways to Homeownership

Honoring Black History Month

This Black History Month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of Black Washingtonians and the ongoing work to create more equitable opportunities for homeownership. As part of this continued work, we were proud to sponsor the Black Home Initiative All-Partner Summit earlier this month, joining leaders and advocates advancing Black homeownership across the state.

We are also proud to support the recent kickoff of the Black Homeownership Spokane (BHS) cohort, where we are facilitating post-purchase information sessions to help homeowners build lasting wealth and security.

Our work and support won’t stop here. We will continue to seek and engage in opportunities to expand accessibility and support for Black homeownership. These efforts, along with many more we plan to expand, reflect our commitment to honoring Black history by investing in Black Washingtonians’ futures.

Partnering for Change

Together, we’re creating change! We thank LISC Puget Sound and are excited to announce our new partnerships with Blue Mountain Action Council (BMAC) and the Tri-Cities HOME Consortium.

Thank You to LISC Puget Sound!

We are grateful to LISC Puget Sound for their partnership in expanding awareness of Washington’s senior property tax exemption program. Through an AARP-funded grant, LISC mailed 20,000 postcards to homeowners in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties, directing eligible seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities to WHRC’s hotline for assistance.

Thanks to this collaboration, our team was able to quickly conduct intake and connect callers with HUD-certified housing counselors trained to help homeowners navigate the exemption application process and address other homeownership or foreclosure prevention needs. The response was immediate: nearly 100 homeowners contacted our hotline within the first few days of the mailing, and the calls are still coming in!

Many Washingtonians still aren’t aware that housing counselors exist or that they can help with a wide range of needs, from purchasing a first home to preventing foreclosure to applying for property tax relief and more. We urge our network to help spread the word: households can start with WHRC to connect with these crucial supports and trusted, no-cost resources statewide.

Blue Mountain Action Council (BMAC)

A Community Action Agency, Blue Mountain Action Council serves and collaborates with our partners in the Walla Walla Valley to support our neighbors experiencing poverty through our three pillars of service: Food, Housing, Jobs.

Tri-Cities HOME Consortium

The City of Richland and the Tri-Cities HOME Consortium offer several programs to support residents with housing needs. These include assistance for homeowners through the Home Rehabilitation Program, help for homebuyers through the Down Payment Assistance Program, and resources for renters seeking financial or housing support.
