Feature Story
A team of Georgetown researchers, including health economists, a neurologist and a computer scientist, are teaming up to develop machine learning algorithms that they hope will help identify people with early Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia based on their financial decision-making and behavior. The work is led by Carole Gresenz, PhD, a professor in the School of Health.
Calls for Abstracts
The Second Annual Georgetown Center for Healthy Aging Symposium, “Advancing Knowledge About Aging to Improve Health and Health Care,” will take place July 12. The symposium will include posters, oral presentations and panel discussions on special topics such as new research collaborations, career development, community outreach and grant proposal development. The MedStar Health-Georgetown University Research and Education Symposium will be held May 8 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. The symposium brings together investigators, educators, executive leaders, associates and collaborative partners from across our academic health system to share their research to advance health in our communities. Announcements
To better reflect Dahlgren Memorial Library’s service to students, faculty and staff at the School of Health, School of Medicine, School of Nursing and Biomedical Graduate Education, the DML, led by Jett McCann, MLS, CKM, DM/AHIP, has become part of GUMC’s central administration. DML was previously a component of the School of Medicine. The shift will not impact services currently available.
The GUMC Faculty Mentoring Program for New and Early Career Faculty is open for applications for a new cohort of 15 mentees and five pod leaders. An information session will take place on February 7, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. to share more about the program, what mentees can expect and qualifications needed to be a pod leader. Applications are due February 10. Email questions to gumcmentoring@georgetown.edu.
The GUMC Faculty Group Coaching Pilot Program is designed to support faculty wellness and enhance career satisfaction and engagement. The spring 2023 program is accepting applications for three pilot groups of 8-10 participants each and it will consist of six 90-minute Zoom sessions every other week March 27 - June 5. All GUMC faculty are eligible. Apply by March 1 and contact ofaa@georgetown.edu with any questions.
The Massive Data Institute at the Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy welcomes undergraduate and graduate students and early career professionals to join a virtual Green Space Data Challenge. Participants will have the month of February to demonstrate the value of green space data by creating analyses, visualizations, and new community indicators. Participants will access various data sources on our Redivis platform in individual or team notebooks to transform green space data into community indicators. Register here.
The Georgetown University Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (GUROP) is an undergraduate research assistantship program that allows undergraduates in any discipline to build their skills in scholarly inquiry. Participants work under the direction of a Georgetown University professor for approximately 60 hours over the course of one semester. The GUROP spring 2023 semester application pre-enrollment form is due by 11:59 p.m. on February 10. Learn more here.
