WE'RE CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
February is Black History Month and we have a series of programs and activities planned to celebrate. Please join us for one or all!

Looking for reading recommendations? We have staff curated lists for adults and kids. You can find more reading lists and library initiatives surrounding equity and inclusion on our RCPL CARES page.

Last but not least, the Domini Hoskins Black History Museum & Learning Center is back with a Black History Month Pop-up Museum! Located at 890 Jefferson Ave, diagonally across the street from the Redwood City Downtown Library, the museum features 22,000 square feet of exhibits on the extraordinary contributions that African-Americans have made throughout our history.
NEW FARMERS MARKET
Great news! Fresh Approach Mobile Farmers Market is now at the Downtown Library every Thursday from 10am to 11:30am. Fresh Approach Bay Area is a non-profit organization that works in the food access space to bring affordable healthy food to communities across the Bay Area. They sell produce on behalf of local, BIPOC owned organic farms. They offer a 50% discount to customers who participate in the CalFresh (SNAP), WIC, SSI/SSDI, Medi-Cal, and Unemployment programs. See you at the market!
eBOOKS IN WORLD LANGUAGES
We are happy to introduce a new eBook service for kids! LOTE4Kids (Languages Other Than English) is a new collection of eBooks in world languages that allows kids to learn a language and connect with books through the magic of storytelling. Use your Redwood City Library card and choose from thousands of audio-picture books in 50+ languages, together with English translations.

YANOVCON
It’s very nearly February, which means the Peninsula Libraries’ annual Young Adult Novelist Convention (#YANovCon) is almost here, too! This year, the convention will be held at the Burlingame Community Center on Saturday, February 11 from 1-5:30pm. Teens, this is an unmissable opportunity to meet some of your favorite award-winning authors and ask them your burning questions about their stories or craft. The event is totally free, but books will also be available for purchase and you can get them signed for free if you like, too! Click here to view the amazing lineup and register.

And because we know many of you are writers yourselves, we also encourage you to submit your own original work of fiction (500 words or less, in any genre) to the #YANovCon Short Story Contest! This year’s theme is Family and Found Family, and the deadline to submit is February 25. For more details, go here.
