Prayers this hurricane season

We gather together

As a community, we gathered together today to pray for all those who have been impacted and will continue to be impacted by the hurricanes in the southeastern United States.

We especially remember our alumnae, family, and friends in the path of these hurricanes. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We continue to pray:

Creator God, we ask you to calm the wind and the waves of the approaching hurricane, and spare those in its path from harm. Help those who are in its way to reach safety. Open our hearts in generosity to all who need help in the coming days.

Alma Matters

Reunion 2024!

On October 5, 2024, St. Catharine’s welcomed back alumnae for Reunion 2024! The intimate gathering celebrated alumnae who graduated in years ending in 4 and 9, and we paid special tribute to members of the class of 1974 who were celebrating their 50th reunion. When asked what brought them back to St. Catharine’s, the response was the same--community. Alumnae shared stories about their time at SCA, reminiscing about events, teachers and classmates.

On September 20, the school community gathered for the Missioning of Kerry Bader, the third President and first lay President of St. Catharine Academy. Members of the Mercy Education Board, alumnae, faculty, staff and students joined in the ceremony where Mrs. Bader formally committed herself to lead in the tradition of Mercy and follow the legacy of our foundress, Catherine McAuley. Mrs. Bader remarked, “I was taught by the Sisters of Mercy at Our Lady of Victory Academy so I am familiar with the charism of the Sisters of Mercy. I am delighted and grateful to be part of this community.”

Flag Raising and 9/11 Ceremony

Students gathered together in prayer to honor the memory of all those who died on September 11th.

Mercy Day

On September 24th, faculty, students and staff celebrated Mercy Day. The day began with the Mass of the Holy Spirit. After the Mass, students participated in a program that allowed them to understand the needs of their neighbors. Representatives from Midnight Run, Housing Solutions of New York, Mercy Center and POTS spoke to the students about the issues that impact homelessness and hunger. After the presentations, students participated in service projects in support of these partners.

Join the Mercy Challenge!

From September 24 - October 24, we are asking our alumnae, donors, friends, families, and supporters to contribute to SCA! Funds raised will go to support academic innovation including new equipment and materials, guest speakers and lecturers, educational field trips, and professional development. Our goal is to raise $9,240.00 and attract 60 new donors. We now have 51 new donors! Donations can be made in the following increments: $9.24, $92.40, $924.00, or an amount of your choice.

Catherine McAuley encouraged the sisters to enjoy a "comfortable cup of tea;" since then, tea has symbolized the warmth and comfort that exists within all Mercy Ministries. Catherine McAuley’s legacy lives on at SCA! Donors who contribute at the $92.40 level and above will be sent a complimentary box of tea!

Two Students awarded with Academic Honors from College Board National Recognition Programs

Two students at St. Catharine Academy earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. These programs celebrate students' hard work in high school and showcase their strong academic performance. The academic honors for rural area, Black, Indigenous, and/or Latino students are an opportunity for students to share their strong academic achievements with colleges and scholarship programs that are seeking to recruit diverse talent.

Leah Roberts ‘25 and Abigale Murphey ‘25 (l. to r. above) received the National African American Recognition Award.

SCA receives College Board Recognitions

St. Catharine Academy has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning SILVER distinction by the College Board. The School was also recognized with the AP Access Award, which “recognizes Saint Catharine Academy as providing all students the chance to participate in AP, including students of underrepresented populations.”

The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing

college readiness.

The Class of 2024 took full advantage of the Advanced Placement program; 64% of the students took at least one Advanced Placement Exam during high school, with 48% of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam, and 23% of seniors who took five or more AP exams! St. Catharine Academy offers 11 AP Courses across the curriculum.

"St. Catharine Academy prides itself on giving students an opportunity to challenge themselves by offering college level courses as early as sophomore year,” says Carmela Melucci-Ivanov, interim principal. “We find that this opportunity allows our students to be better prepared for the rigors of college."

Together Unstoppable

St. Catharine Academy has launched a campaign to build a new athletic and wellness center. A graphic artist created a rendering which was unveiled at the Reunion. Our students are enthused and excited. For more information about the campaign, please visit our website and social media for updates.
