Daniela Valdovinos brings warmth, dedication, and a deep sense of purpose to her role as Volunteer Coordinator of Older Adult Services at JFS. She oversees two vital programs: Supermarketing for Seniors and Compassionate Companions - connecting volunteers with older adults who need help with grocery shopping and transportation to medical appointments.

Inspired by her 96-year-old grandmother’s independence and resilience, Daniela is passionate about helping older adults age in place with dignity and comfort. “To age in place offered my grandmother many more years of happiness,” she shares. “I want to provide that same comfort and community to others.”

Daniela finds joy in the everyday connections she witnesses between volunteers and clients. Whether it’s a birthday celebration, tech help, or a home-cooked meal, these small gestures make a big impact. One story that stands out involves a volunteer who helped a stroke survivor create a personalized meal plan, easing the burden on her caregiving son. “It was a beautiful reminder of how volunteers bring not only their time, but their talents and compassion,” Daniela says.

She describes volunteers as “rays of light” for clients, offering peace of mind and companionship.

JFS staff recently accompanied a group of clients on a memorable day trip to New York City. Organized by Michael Garcia, Assistant Director, Community Integration, the outing offered young adults a chance to explore iconic landmarks, experience local culture, and build connections.

The group navigated the city by foot and subway, visiting 125th Street, the New York Public Library exhibits, Bryant Park, Times Square, Grand Central Station, and more. JFS provided train fare, snacks, and a food stipend, ensuring everyone could fully enjoy the experience.

For many, it was their first time in New York City. One participant shared, “This was of one of the most beautiful days of my life… I never expected to visit New York City and see its landmarks and sights.” Another added, “Times Square was so cool, especially when I saw my photo on the big screen… Seeing the Empire State Building for the first time was awesome.”

Thanks to Michael and the JFS team, the day was filled with discovery, joy, and lasting memories.

This meaningful and empowering group experience focuses on coping with antisemitism—a rising concern in the media, on campuses, and in our communitiesstirring anger, fueling anxiety, and creating anxiety. The group meets every other Wednesday, beginning October 22 through January 7, from 7-8:30 pm. Click here for more information.
