JFS offers programs that reflect the evolving needs of our community, such as the Retired Women’s Group, facilitated by clinician Amy Singer, LCSW, who explains: “Retirement brings hopes and plans, but also unexpected responsibilities—caring for aging parents, helping with grandchildren, managing health issues. This group offers a space to navigate these transitions together.”

Since its launch in April, the group has explored a wide range of topics—from health and travel to changing family roles and personal enrichment. Urgent concerns are always prioritized, and members share strategies, stories, and support. “We find time to nurture our souls,” Amy says, “through friendship, intellectual activities, and self-care.”

One participant describes the group as a place of connection and growth: “I enjoy meeting with women who bring different perspectives to varied topics and appreciate making new friends and learning different things.” Whether you're seeking community, conversation, or a place to be heard, the Retired Women’s Group offers a meaningful way to stay connected. Team JFS shows up every day to change lives across Fairfield and New London Counties—bringing time, skill, and heart. To keep giving our best, we also need to care for ourselves. Our first Active Wellness Day was a joyful reset: one-legged races, relay challenges, tug-of-war, and classic potato-sack fun. Even a little rain couldn’t dampen the laughter or the sense of connection. Our team came away grounded, re-energized, and reminded that self-care isn’t extra—it’s essential to providing safe, high-quality care for our clients. By tending to our own well-being, we return to our work with clarity, compassion, and the resilience our community deserves.

JFS therapist Benson Casimir recently attended the Dolan Middle School Open House in Stamford, connecting with students, families, and staff. His presence highlighted the supportive services JFS provides on-site, and offered a warm introduction to the mental health resources available to the school community.

Food insecurity affects families across our region, and JFS is committed to addressing it with compassion and action. Through partnerships with Meals on Main St, Food Rescue, and The Friendly Fridge, we provide nourishing meals and essential groceries to those in need—because everyone deserves access to healthy food.

This month, we are raising awareness and inviting the community to get involved. Whether you volunteer, donate, or help spread the word, your support helps us build a stronger, healthier future for all. For more information or to volunteer, email Melissa Basile-Reolon.

Since opening our Norwich office last fall, we've made a meaningful impact in the community. From counseling sessions to case management support, our team has served hundreds of clients and facilitated new programs tailored to local needs. Stay tuned as we continue to grow and expand our reach in the region!
