Whit, a student at Brunswick School, has been volunteering with the JFS Supermarketing for Seniors program for three months, and his commitment has already made a lasting impression.

Inspired by an advertisement at his school, Whit was drawn to the opportunity to help isolated homebound seniors in the Greenwich community. “I love spending time with my grandparents and doing whatever I can to help them,” he shared. “This seemed like a perfect way to contribute to others older adults.”

Each Sunday morning, Whit shops for Ms. Kirschner, carefully gathering every item on her shopping list. "I genuinely look forward to this part of my weekly routine,” he said. “I love helping out Ms. Kirschner and this service is an amazing way to do so.”

One moment that stands out for Whit was his very first shopping trip. “I didn’t know what to expect, but when I brought back the groceries and saw how grateful Ms. Kirschner was, I knew this was something I wanted to keep doing.”

Whit encourages others to get involved with JFS: “It’s an amazing organization that makes it easy to help. Volunteering is satisfying and fun -- I highly recommend it!”

We are so grateful to Whit for his dedication, kindness, and the care he brings to our community each week.

JFS joined the vibrant Wellness Expo at UConn Stamford, a free, community-wide event dedicated to health, awareness, and connection.

The expo featured live fitness demonstrations, multicultural performances, family-friendly activities, and resources from local organizations. Awareness spotlights included breast cancer, ADHD, Down Syndrome, and domestic violence, reinforcing the importance of education and support.

We were proud to share JFS services and connect with community members in a space that celebrated wellness and unity. Thank you to UConn Stamford and all partners for making this event possible!

Thanks to You, We Tripled Our Goal!

Our 10K in 10 Days SNAP Emergency Campaign raised over $32,000, far surpassing our original goal. These funds are already helping families affected by the federal shutdown and loss of SNAP benefits, providing essential food support and gift cards. We’re so grateful to everyone who gave!

Olena arrived in Connecticut with her husband and two young sons, bringing a university degree and years of experience from Ukraine, but struggled to find work that matched her skillset. Initially hesitant to join group activities due to language barriers, she attended a JFS session on advancing education in the U.S. and found both guidance and a supportive community.

With help from JFS employment services -- including resume coaching, ESL classes, and mentorship -- Olena rebuilt her confidence and was matched with a company that values her background. Today, she works full-time and continues to grow her professional and social networks.

JFS of Norwich was proud to join Covenant Shelter of New London’s first annual Boots on the Ground Community Resource Fair. The event raised awareness about the housing crisis and connected families with vital resources—all while bringing the community together for fun activities like line dancing, face painting, and a cookout.

Thank you to Covenant Shelter, Step Up New London, and all partners for creating a space where hope and resources meet!
