CARE FOR CREATION TIP OF THE WEEK Did you know that the Salmon Recovery Funding Program is a new program as of 2022, funded by the Washington State Legislature, that encourages incentive programs that focus on projects with landowners that focus on the restoration of areas critical in salmon habitat, otherwise known as riparian restoration projects. The Washington State Conservation Commission is committed to supporting private landowners’ voluntary stewardship of natural resources. This opportunity provides funding for projects that protect critical areas while maintaining agricultural viability, with a focus on salmon habitat.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE: COOKING ON SATURDAYS St. James Cathedral is one of just three sites that serve breakfast for homeless and low-income persons on Sunday mornings in Seattle. A dedicated group of parishioners come in on Saturdays, 3.30pm-5.30pm, to cook breakfast, which is then heated up and served on Sunday mornings. Consider volunteering once a month to cook on Saturday afternoons. Information, Patrick Barredo, 206-382-4515 or pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU A young woman relocated to Seattle to finish her degree in a prestigious program. She works for a temporary agency to support herself and counted on a roommate to pay half of the rent in the apartment she lived in. When the roommate backed out, she found she could not make ends meet. The woman called the St Vincent de Paul Helpline (206-767-6449) requesting assistance. Thanks to your support, the woman met her current month's rent. Additionally, this neighbor shared the good news that a new roommate would contribute half of the rent in the next and upcoming months. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.

PREPARING FOR FIRST COMMUNION The Archdiocese of Seattle mandates a 2 year preparation period for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. If your child will be in 1st or 2nd Grade this fall, please sign them up in August, 2023 for Sacramental Preparation beginning this September. Information, Theresa Van de Ven at 206-219-5822 or tvandeven@stjames-cathedral.org.

YOUTH PREPARATION FOR CONFIRMATION The Archdiocese of Seattle changed the age of Confirmation in 2019. Candidates for Confirmation are now typically in 7th or 8th Grade. VISIT THE CATHEDRAL COLUMBARIUM A columbarium is a cemetery for the reverent burial of cremated remains. The way we honor the mortal remains of our deceased family members and friends is a reflection of the faith we profess in the Nicene Creed: we believe in the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. The columbarium is open for prayer whenever the Cathedral is open.

TOILETRY DONATIONS If you are traveling and staying at a hotel, consider bringing the small toiletries back to St. James. There is a donation bin located in the Cathedral Bookstore. Our St. Vincent de Paul conference packages the toiletries and distributes them to those in need. Thank you!

WELCOME BACKPACKS We are called to accompany, celebrate, support, and embrace refugees. Immigrant Assistance is preparing to welcome migrants arriving in Seattle from the US-Mexico border. Our new volunteer Respite Team will support these individuals in addressing their immediate and short-term needs during their first three months here.
