CELEBRATING DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS
Today is Día de los Muertos and the Library has been celebrating all week! Visitors to the Makerspace had a wonderful time making Calaveras de Azúcar/Sugar Skulls on Saturday. Last week, Redwood City School District librarians invited RCPL Librarian Armando to visit four local schools and read Día de los Muertos stories to around 1,500 students.

We encourage you to drop into the Makerspace to see our amazing Ofrenda created by Librarian Maria (pictured above)! It'll be up until Thursday and it's an incredible artistic tribute to the holiday.

While many Mexican American families still celebrate the holiday with personal and sometimes religious traditions, the annual public celebration hosted by Casa Círculo Cultural has become Redwood City’s signature celebration of the diversity and culture of our town.

Día de los Muertos on Courthouse Square is on Sunday, November 6th from 3:40 pm to 8:00 pm. It is brought to you by Casa Círculo Cultural and the San Mateo County History Museum, in partnership with Friends of the Redwood City Library and the Redwood City Parks & Arts Foundation.
NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH
November is Native American Heritage Month! It is a time to learn more about the diverse traditions, contributions and experiences of Indigenous communities across North America. Here at the library, we're learning through crafts, author visits, and of course, books!

NOV 5, 2pm
This Saturday, kids can explore various Indigenous cultures through their regional handicrafts.

NOV 12, 2pm
Next Saturday, tweens and teens ages 10+ are invited to learn about the significance of dreamcatchers in the Ojibwe Native American communities and make one of their own.

These programs are IDEAL RWC and RCPL CARES events
NOV 1 - NOV 30
Every fall, a team of librarians and educators in San Mateo County select a slate of books to foster community and discussion through literacy. This year's theme is Native Authors, Native Lives. You can participate by reading the titles selected for children, teens and adults, or registering to attend virtual events with Indigenous authors Joseph Bruchac, Angeline Boulley, and Cynthia Leitich Smith on November 14-16, as well as Vincent Medina and Louis Trevino, founders of the Bay Area restaurant Cafe Ohlone, on November 15. For more information about the books and authors go here.

Find more great reads by Native authors in our staff picks for kids and adults!
