Let’s turn June into Father’s Month
J
une is the month for grads, dads, and the arrival of summer. How strange now to try celebrating these milestones in the midst of an ongoing pandemic and the racial injustice that plagues our country.
We continually pray for healing for all those suffering and for reform. We address this issue in depth in our next newsletter.
For today: Let’s hear it for our fathers! It is often said that children learn more from their fathers’ examples of faith, such as leading grace at family meals and taking the family to Mass. Kids expect it from their mothers, so Dad’s action may speak more powerfully.
Let’s make this Father’s Month. They deserve more than a single day of celebration. We need to take the time to say “Thanks, Dad!” by sending a card, sharing a meal, and making a phone call to remind him of a special time or lesson he taught us.

Honoring Our Grads in This Time of Crisis
Every child deserves a quality education—it is our social responsibility to teach each generation the skills and values they need to succeed in life. It’s hard to imagine that our students can earn a quality education in this current environment. Our Catholic schools are succeeding because we were ready with distance learning and are doing what we do best—teaching values that build character and challenge students to reach their highest potential.
Let us honor the class of 2020. Congratulations! You made it! You may not have had a formal graduation ceremony this year, but you have graduated, and that’s what counts. You worked hard in your Catholic school and got through the pandemic and the distance-learning classes. You are now prepared for the next phase, be it high school, college, a career, or a vocation.
To the Catholic-school class of 2020, always be grateful to your parents and family members for the sacrifices they made to pay tuition, buy uniforms and supplies, and get you to school on time. Never forget the teachers, sports and performing-arts coaches, counselors, and all of the school staff that helped you earn your diploma. You might be surprised to learn that you will still remember some of these incredible mentors 40 years from now with great fondness. But most of all, always remember to practice what you learned about being a person of principle, character, and faith.

From the Desk of the CFO | Market Report
Arnulfo Cueva, Jr., CFO — Last week’s reports on new jobs and the decline of U.S. unemployment led to significant gains in the markets. At yesterday’s close, stocks were trading at a 15-week high while the S&P 500 erased this year’s prior losses. Our economy, slowed due to the pandemic and social unrest, has every prospect of continued improvement as long as the reopenings continue and damage to productive capacity can be minimized. The last several days of trading reflect greater optimism for the accelerated recovery of value over the cautious hopefulness we saw in May. We will provide full May results of CCF-LA portfolios later in the month.
