These triplet boys got to visit our triplet calves Livalot, Lafalot and Luvalot on their hands-on farm tour in May. The calves' mom, Legend, is June's Cow of the Month (below).

June Dairy Month blog series: How It's Made
|
Ever wondered how Hansen's Dairy products are made? During June Dairy Month, we will highlight one of our products every week on our blog and show you exactly how it's done.
|
#MilkMonday continues through June
|
#MilkMonday is continuing into its third month
and runs every Monday through June Dairy Month.
With thanks to the Black Hawk County Farm Bureau, this initiative
asks grocery shoppers at
Hansen's Dairy and
Fareway
Grocery stores to round up their
total purchase to the nearest dollar, which will
provide Hansen's Dairy
milk to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.
Hansen's Dairy is thrilled that so many people have been generous in opening their hearts and wallets to provide milk for the Food Bank. We are blessed to live in communities where people see the importance of providing nutritious food to their neighbors.

Rachele Steffens and family |
The June Customer of the Month is Rachele Steffens
of Evansdale.
Rachele said the family was first introduced to Hansen's Dairy when their daughter Olivia took a tour of the farm in elementary school.
"Since this time we enjoy regular visits to Hansen's Dairy at your Waterloo location," Rachele said.
The family's favorite products include the cheese curds, ice cream, milk, Muenster cheese, pepper jack cheese, ham, and buffalo meat - "not to mention the wonderful customer service we receive every time we visit!" Rachele said. "We shop at Hansen's for the excellent variety of products, reasonable pricing and helpful staff."
Thanks, Rachele! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our
Facebook
and

 Cow of the Month
|
We would be remiss if we did not feature Legend as our June Cow of the Month.
On May 17, Legend performed a feat that no other cow has done in the history of our dairy herd: delivered surviving triplet calves. And they are all three girls!
Legend carried the triplets for 39 weeks and one day ... only six days short of full term (just like humans, a cow's gestation is 40 weeks). Not only that, but each calf weighed about the same as a single calf would - 80, 85 and 85 pounds!
We knew she had twins, but triplets was a huge surprise. Legend was carrying a 250-pound secret.
All three calves are thriving. We named them Livalot, Lafalot and Luvalot. Legend herself is also doing extremely well, milking 80 pounds a day. This extraordinary occurrence may not happen again in our lifetime. This "Legendairy" cow now lives up to her name!
For more info, pictures, and video of these triplets, check out our blog posts:

Cooking with Hansen's
|
It's berry season! Here's a spin on a family favorite recipe my mom has been making for years. The original recipe calls for a powdered mix for making whipped cream, a graham cracker crust and a can of cherry pie filling for the topping. The first time I made it was for a Milk-Made Magic 4-H contest in junior high. Aiming to keep things simple and use local foods, I was able to keep the best parts of this recipe and cut about 45 minutes off the prep time.
For more simple, tasty recipes using local food like this, check out my website at www.JulieGrunklee.com.
Berry Delight
Serves: 3-4
Total time: 15 min
Ingredients
- 1 quart Hansen's Dairy Cream*
- 3/4 c powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pkg cream cheese, softened
- 2-3 cups fresh berries**
* Items found in Hansen's Dairy Stores
** Items found in Hansen's Dairy Stores in season
Directions
- Place Hansen's Dairy Cream, powdered sugar and vanilla in large mixing bowl and mix on low speed with hand mixer or stand mixer for a few seconds until mixed well.
- Increase speed gradually until you reach the high setting.
- Mix on high for about 2 minutes or until it's nice and fluffy. Don't mix for too long as it will turn into butter!
- Add the cream cheese and mix on medium/medium-high for about a minute until creamy.
- Spoon out 1/2 cup into small bowls and top with fresh berries.
- Also makes a great fruit dip or base for fruit pizza.
