Blayre Britton and Horace Britton

CDI Printing

Horace J. Britton is a devoted family man who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Horace wanted to support his ever-growing family in a way that promoted local businesses and the African American community. To this end, Horace J. Britton founded CDI Printing in 1993.

Through hard work and by the grace of God, CDI has grown into a nationally recognized commercial printing company, specializing in all phases of print communication, from graphic design to binding, finishing, and fulfillment.

Horace’s daughter Blayre, a graduate of Harvard University and Duke Law School, has since taken over CDI. Although they have many large clients including Fortune 500 Pharmaceutical companies, several of the country’s largest banks, and global social media companies, Blayre makes sure to carry on Horace’s legacy of community support by dedicating time and resources to a long list of disadvantaged businesses, aspiring entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations, and faith-based groups.

CDI Printing is located in Pittsburgh, PA.

Tony Jackson grew up on the inner-city streets of Rochester, NY. His mother died of MS when he was 13 and his father left when he was 7 and was murdered when he was 19.

He was raised by his grandmother Corine who was a woman of high character and unwavering principles who founded and ran her own dry-cleaning business in the 1960’s. Tony worked alongside Corine and saw the tenacity and resilience required by a black woman venturing into business ownership at that time. Her love and character are woven into the fabric of Tony’s being.

Tony attended Edison Tech High School and became intrigued by the craftsmanship and skill needed to run a printing press. He spent the first half of his day in traditional classes and his afternoons were spent perfecting his craft as a pressman.

Early on Tony recognized that working for someone else was never going to work, he was fired from every job he had and saw that as a sign from God to create his own legacy.

Panther Graphics was founded in 1993, nine days before Corine entered her eternal home and now has annual revenue of $40 million.

Tony is committed to making an impact in minority communities and has devoted himself and his company to enhancing the lives of youth within the Rochester community through education and skilled trade partnerships with local high schools and, Black Colleges and Universities.

Tony’s personal mission is to be a faithful steward of the blessings entrusted to him by God, while being a source of blessings to others.

Paul, Kristance & Damani Coates

BCP Digital

Black Classic Press

Paul Coates is founder of the publishing house Black Classic Press and the digital printer BCP Digital, both in Baltimore, MD.

I came to book printing 50 years ago. As a community activist, I started an organization to provide employment to formerly incarcerated people. Originally the idea was to start a bookstore, then a publishing company, followed by a book printing company. The jails and prisons of America hold some of the best minds in the world. Why not give them an opportunity to re-enter their community as contributors?

Books were at the center of my vision. I believe “books change people and people change the world.”

The prison program never quite worked out. But my original vision evolved into the business I operate today -- BCP Digital Printing. We are the only Black-owned book printing and publishing company in the United States. We still have a continuing commitment to strengthen our community. We hire from the inner-city stabilizing individuals and community by providing jobs with training and solid living wages.
