To celebrate Earth Day, Wildpath is excited to announce our newest film 'The Florida Grasshopper Sparrow: Connecting a Sentinel Landscape'. Directed by Katie Bryden, the film chronicles the extraordinary efforts to bring back one of the most endangered birds in the United States.
"This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and community in bringing a species back from the brink of extinction," says Katie. The Department of Defense's Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration Program (REPI) joins the Sentinel Landscape Partnership in their mission to advance climate and installation resilience all across the country. The Department, in collaboration with the Archbold Biological Station and the Department of the Interior's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, implemented a captive breeding and reintroduction program for the Florida Grasshopper Sparrow.
Having lost much of their prairie habitat to development, the species finds refuge in the open prairie environment maintained by the U.S. Air Force at Avon Park Air Force Range in south central Florida. The film builds on crucial connections sentinel landscapes provide for supporting conservation while also strengthening military readiness.
