Celebrating Easter
"Easter and Passover celebrate not only renewal and rebirth, but also a certain scrappiness and resilience, a certain indomitability of spirit. Hope and life triumphed over death and fear... We are waiting for this to pass over. Easter and Passover are hard stories with beautiful endings. And this story, the Covid-19 story, will end too. On the other side, maybe our lives will be burnished with gratitude. " - NY Times "Good-Enough Holidays."

We, at The Saybrook at Haddam, are making the best of the situation and thought you'd like to know what we have planned for your loved ones, our treasured residents, for this weekend.

Scriptures and a list of TV channels hosting Easter Church services will be placed in resident mailboxes on Saturday . On Sunday, the Easter Bunny will visit and pass out baskets of goodies from 10 AM -12 Noon.

Easter in Safe Harbor

On Thursday, April 9th, residents will color Easter Eggs. On Saturday there will be an Easter Egg Hunt in various secret locations in the hallways, living room, and sun room. The evening movie is a choice between "The King and I," and "The Story of Jesus."

On Easter Sunday, Karen, our Senior Recreation Programmer, will deliver the eggs created earlier to each resident at their place setting. We will help residents peel the eggs so they can be eaten with breakfast. At 10:00 a.m. residents will put on their "Sunday Best," and gather in the living room to watch Easter Mass on TV. Next, there will be a reading of Easter Poems, personal resident stories, and reminiscing. Following lunch, "Easter Parade" will be shown in the living room. Those not wishing to watch a movie may go outside into the courtyard for fresh air, sunshine and friendship. The afternoon will feature an Easter-themed ice cream social. Residents will have an opportunity to make special Easter cards for family, and then, after dinner, the evening movie will be "Ben Hur."

Please call to arrange a time if you wish to speak with your loved one on the telephone on Easter Sunday. Susan Judge will coordinate the schedule so that each resident has their appointment time on the Safe Harbor phone; and Karen will assist residents to ensure they are available for their scheduled call.

We are looking forward to a full Easter experience this weekend. Blessings!
We realize not seeing your family members is difficult. Their safety is our number one priority, and we are trying to balance that with keeping them happy. Thankfully, we've been experiencing some nice weather which allows us all to get outside for exercise and fresh air. That goes a long way for keeping spirits up!

Thank you for your support and understanding during this challenge. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact us. Please stay safe, take care of one another, and find a way to enjoy this down time. Be Well, and God Bless!
