Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario Celebrates Financial Literacy Month with Libro Credit Union
November 12, 2020 – London, ON – Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario is proud to celebrate Financial Literacy Month this November with Libro Credit Union, the organization’s Financial Foundations Sponsor. This partnership with Libro has led to the development of a comprehensive series of Financial Foundations community workshops that provide financial literacy training for Individuals in the community, Community organizations, and the Indigenous Community.
The Financial Foundations community workshops were developed with Libro Lending Specialists Daniel Barreiras and Shelley Humphrey, and are designed to teach members of the community about personal financial topics that they will use in everyday life. Habitat and Libro have created a series of workshop courses addressing specific topics such as: Household Budgeting, Basic Banking, Credit Cards & Prepaid Cards, and How to Build Your Credit. These workshops are inspired by the financial literacy education that all Habitat homeowners must complete as part of their partnership with Habitat.
“We are grateful to be able to partner with Habitat for Humanity and help empower community members with knowledge, skills and confidence to make responsible financial decisions” says Laura Husser, Libro Branch Manager. “At Libro, we have identified four pillars as the key areas where we will focus on to deliver our promise to grow prosperity in southwestern Ontario. Financial Resilience and Housing are two of those pillars and we are proud to support Habitat for Humanity in their work to help families into homes and provide them with financial education.”
“Partnering with Libro and their Lending Specialist has been a tremendous experience,” says Brian Elliot, CEO – Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario. “The wealth of experience and knowledge they have in budgeting and personal finance has allowed us to enhance our program delivery at every level. Jointly we are able to help educate and inform more families than ever before. Together we will bring new skills and abilities to a wider community.”
Libro has continued to work with Habitat on community outreach during the pandemic by offering the Financial Foundations workshops virtually for groups in the community with clients that would benefit from the course material of their choice. Habitat Heartland is thrilled to continue this partnership with Libro, further promoting Financial Literacy in the community, and removing barriers to personal banking education.
