Celebrating Hanukkah - a Dedication to Defiance on Night 5
At sundown December 18th the celebration of Hanukkah began. This evening will be the fifth night for those celebrating. Hanukkah spans over eight days, creating a beautiful space for people to reflect, unite, pray, and celebrate. Also known as the "festival of lights", Hanukkah is celebrated with nightly Menorah lightings.
There are many ways to celebrate and connect to each night's lighting. This resources provides various ways to delve into your own meditation and reflection. The article highlights that night 5 can be used as a time dedicated to defiance. This is a night dedicated to persistence and confidence, a night not afraid to sacrifice. It is a night of knowing one’s identity, of being grounded in an inner courtyard of calm and courage, regardless of the chaos of the world outside. May this day be a time to find the strength of your voice, dig in your roots, and call upon your own courageous powers. After 90 Years, a Menorah That Symbolized Defiance Is Rekindled in Germany (Article in The New York Times, see photo below)
However you choose to celebrate at this time, we invite you to be intentional in reflecting, growing, and leaning into connection. The nightly ritual of lighting the menorah provides a wonderful space to reset your intentions. Each night illuminates a new aspect of yourself and calls for a pause in your daily life. In what ways are you continuing to grow? How are you being called to rise in defiance and boldly share your voice?
GlobalMindED stands as an advocate for defiance to injustice and inequity. We stand with you in your persistence to call for equity and hear your voice.
