MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

September 25, 2023

According to 2020 census data, over 10% of Delawareans are Hispanic. This number is growing yearly, especially in Sussex County where the population has increased nearly 60% since 2010.

Delaware also has a growing footprint of Hispanic owned and operated businesses. So recently the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce became a member and affiliate of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), who represents over 4.7 million hispanic-owned businesses nationwide.

We are now in the midst of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Celebrated from September 15th to October 15th, it is a nationwide observance that honors the rich and diverse contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities to American society. This month-long celebration commemorates the independence days of several Latin American countries and serves as a platform to recognize the traditions, languages, cuisines, and histories of Hispanic Americans. It highlights their pivotal role in shaping Delaware and our country's diverse identity.

In the coming year, we’ll feature more about our partnership with the USHCC and highlight some of our members, their employees, and what the future holds for us all.

We close out the week on Friday with personal income and personal spending data from August, retail and wholesale inventories data for August, and consumer sentiment data for September.

This is a very light week for earnings calls. Costco Wholesale is the spotlight company for the Tuesday calls and is joined by Cintas, Miller/Kroll, and Progress Software.
