A Celebration of Legacy and Community

This past month, our space was filled with something truly special: love, history, and community, as we gathered to celebrate Deacon Miller’s 98th birthday.

At 98 years young, Deacon Miller represents a living legacy. As the first Black bus driver for AC Transit, he has witnessed Oakland through decades of change. Through it all, he carries a deep pride in the resilience and diversity of this city. His life is a reminder of strength, perseverance, and the power of community roots that continue to hold us together.

Being able to celebrate him in an intimate and joyful way was an honor. It was not just a birthday, it was a moment of reflection, gratitude, and connection across generations.

Moments like this are why we open our doors. Our space is here for the community, for celebrations big and small, for honoring our elders, and for creating new memories together. Deacon Miller’s 98th birthday was a beautiful example of what it means to gather, to uplift, and to share space with intention and care.

Happy 98th Birthday, Deacon Miller! Thank you for your legacy, your presence, and your continued light in our community.

If you have something meaningful to celebrate, we welcome you. This space is yours, too.
