Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, celebrated tomorrow, January 20, is a great opportunity to give back to your community. Dr. King’s legacy reminds us to serve others and work toward a more equal society.

Consider engaging in acts of service year-round, to make a positive impact in our community. In addition to volunteering at JFS, reach out to community partners like the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich and the Greenwich United Way. Here are a few other suggestions:

  • Volunteer at a local food bank or shelter.
  • Participate in a community clean-up or beautification project.
  • Donate clothes, books, or other essentials to organizations supporting underserved communities.
  • Support local initiatives focused on racial justice and equity.

By giving back, we can continue Dr. King’s work of building a better, more inclusive world for all!

If you're interested in volunteering with JFS, please contact the Volunteer Department!

Please join us at the YWCA of Greenwich Annual Coretta Scott and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Annual Conversation: A Vital Conversation: Women's Health Equity Forum, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at the YWCA of Greenwich, 259 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830. Empowering Families and Inspiring Learning

Horizons at Brunswick is dedicated to advancing educational equity for students from under-resourced communities. Recently, JFS Attorney Chris Kelley met with parents while their children participated in enrichment activities. While the kids were having fun, Chris connected with parents, offering valuable information about immigration legal services to help them become more informed and prepared.

We’re delighted to partner with Horizons at Brunswick and continue making a positive impact in our community.

Ukrainian "Know Your Rights" Immigration Presentation

Recently, JFS hosted a “Know Your Rights” immigration presentation at the Ferguson Library in Stamford for the Ukrainian community. Over 35 attendees, including humanitarian parolees, asylees, and refugees, JFS Ukrainian case management team, and Supervising Attorney Christopher Kelley, provided an educational overview of the “Uniting for Ukraine” humanitarian parole program. The presentation covered key information about attendees' legal rights and potential immigration scenarios in light of the new administration taking office on January 20.
