Washington's Mid-September Check In
Celebrate Friendship Month This September 2020
September is Friendship Month and is used to remind us and to highlight the importance of friendship while recognizing how it can strengthens us. Friendships between people can begin for many reasons and how those friendships are nurtured can take all different shapes and sizes. The one thing that all friendships have in common is how they help us all feel emotionally and socially fulfilled. Being around true friends helps us in all aspects of our life and pushes us to aim higher and work harder. Friendship also empowers and motivates us to stay on our road to success and reach our intended goals. True friends give more than they take, without keeping score, and they feed your inner confidence with positive nourishment and propel us to muster strength we never knew we had.

The unknown and unpredictable challenges of 2020 thus far have left many confused and despondent, but we can all count on the importance of our faith and our true friendships outlasting these difficult times. In other words, Friends of old are friends of gold .
I am reminded of a popular song by one of my favorite artist, Dionne Warwick, entitled,
“That’s What Friends Are For".
A few of the pertinent lyrics that reflect the importance of friendship are as follows:
“...Knowing you can always count on me, for sure;
That's what friends are for.
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more.
That's what friends are for…”
The Road to Success:
Goal Setting
With the school year now in full swing, it is important to re-visit the goals you set for yourself. Use it as a time to reflect and plan ahead. Taking the time to plan and look ahead helps ensure success later on. Share your goals with friends and family to help you stay accountable and motivated.
Your goal journey is like a long, winding road. Full of unexpected twists and turns that can be tough to get through, yet always powering forward knowing you will reach the end of the road. Looking back on the journey you will be thankful for the twists and turns and be able to set future goals for yourself.
Be Thankful,
Give the Gift of Gratitude
The constant devastation of 2020 can be hard to push through, but it is important to be thankful for the people you have by your side. As we approach the Fall Harvesting season make sure to thank the people around you now for supporting you, believing in you and loving you all yearlong, everyday.
Taking time to show thanks is what helps cultivate healthy relationships and lift spirits so very much needed during these challenging times. An unexpected phone call, a text, card in the mail or other acts of kindness will most likely make their day. Their gratitude will be returned to you exponentially.
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."
- John 15:12-13 (NIV)

Excellent Memoir --
Passion Never Fails
"This is an inspiration. Dr Hattie Washington lived in a time where there were 2 room school houses
and her Virginia county refused to desegregate! That time is in our lifetime bc I'm not that old! Reading her memoir is both a lesson in
history, passion, endurance and survival. How Aunt Hattie was able
to turn toward saving youngsters
by opening those homes including
her own for group homes is amazing. Bring your tissues."
