Celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week | |
This week, communities across the country are celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week, and here in Abilene, it is the perfect time to say thank you to the visitors who choose to spend their time, dollars and memories in our community.
For more than 150 years, people have traveled to Abilene. From cowboys at the end of the Chisholm Trail to families exploring Kansas I-70 today, travel has helped shape our story and support our local economy. Every visitor who rides the rails, tours a museum, shops downtown, attends an event or spends the night in our community helps support local businesses, attractions and jobs.
At the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau, our job is simple: to inspire travel to Abilene.
We hope this weekly e-newsletter helps do just that by highlighting the people, places, attractions and events that make our community special. Whether we are celebrating a national award, sharing a local success story, promoting an upcoming festival or reminding travelers about a hidden gem worth discovering, our goal is to encourage people to experience Abilene for themselves.
We are proud to tell Abilene’s story and grateful for the businesses, volunteers, attractions and community partners who help make this community such a welcoming destination.
Most importantly, thank you to our visitors. Thank you for supporting our local businesses, exploring our attractions, attending our events and sharing your experiences with others.
Your visits make a difference.
We look forward to welcoming you to Abilene soon!

Just over two hours west of Kansas City, the historic town of Abilene, Kansas offers an unforgettable mix of American history, cowboy culture, and small-town hospitality.

| | America Likes Agriculture | | |
Agriculture is at the heart of America, and it has long been at the heart of Abilene. As Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, “Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil and you’re a thousand miles from the cornfield.”
Here, you can experience that story up close at the Dickinson County Historical Society, where the Farm Toy Museum brings generations of agricultural history to life. From miniature tractors to detailed farm scenes, it is a fun and fascinating look at the equipment, innovation and hard work that built communities like ours.
It is more than a collection. It is a tribute to the people and traditions that continue to shape the land and feed the nation.
Take a closer look, share the story and celebrate the legacy.
Because America likes agriculture!
