211 Day!

Each year, 211 day is celebrated on February 11th. We started the week with agency-wide celebrations to recognize our Gateway Contact Center staff who are available 24/7 to answer 211 calls, among several other lines. This team works hard to ensure that no one in our community has to face crisis alone. Last year they answered 61,374 calls to just the 211 line.

The Value of an Internship

As the call volume to the Gateway Contact Center grew post-pandemic, Crisis Center staff had to brainstorm new ways to expand the team answering those calls. One of the ways this was achieved is through partnerships with USF, UT and Saint Leo. Undergraduate students in social service fields intern in the contact center while receiving hands on experience working with community members in need.

One of the first interns in this program was Jam Ost. Over a year later, Jam has moved into a permanent role within the Crisis Center. Click the link below to read the blog post about how the internship helped Jam decide where to focus her career.
