Summertime in India

Christopher Conway Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Theology, encountered the Benedictine spirit abroad this summer on a research trip to India. He hopes to bring students with him on the next excursion, to discover what is "true and holy" in other religious traditions. 

Toshihiro (Toppo) Takamura
Alumni Highlight

Toshihiro (Toppo) Takamura, M.A. '03, returned to Saint John's this year --"one of the only places I feel at home"-- as a resident scholar at the Collegeville Institute.  While Toppo   is now completing  his Ph.D. from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia,  the road to Ph.D. has been an unconventional one. Here he reflects on his journey and the influence of his time at the SOT/Sem.

Faculty Publication Now Digitally Available

Vatican I and Vatican II: Councils in the Living Tradition  is now available for digital download through the Liturgical Press. Kristin M. Colberg Ph.D., Associate Professor of Theology, uses the questions of what, why, and how the councils taught to frame and demonstrate significant points of continuity, complementarity, and difference between them. Colberg argues that only by seeing both Vatican I and Vatican II as communicating vital dimensions of the Christian faith can the church's living tradition be fully appreciated and speak meaningfully to modern Christian women and men.

NEW Hispanic Ministry in the 21st Century Program

Alumni and friends celebrate diversity at the SOT/Sem; in particular, diversity of culture and preparation to work with various cultures in ministry.   Fr. Efrain Rosado, M.Div. '17,  discusses the latest initiative of the Hispanic Ministry in the 21st Century Program, a two-week immersion experience that provides to its participants an appropriate and insightful introduction to Hispanic Ministry for Christian parishes, faith communities and schools.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, the SOT/Sem receives the musical grace of our talented Chapel Choir. The Choir will perform at the upcoming Donor Appreciation Dinner alongside the world-renown, Fr. Michael Joncas, recipient of the  Pax Christi Award.

SOT/Sem to Welcome All Classes for Reunion 2018

This June, Alumni will travel from all over the world to hear from their favorite faculty, reconnect with classmates, and meet new colleagues. Charles (Chuck) Ceronsky '73, will receive the Ezekiel, Prophet of Hope, Award for his work in hospital chaplaincy and Laura K. Fanucci, '09, award-winning author of multiple books and the blog, Mothering Spirit, will deliver the Keynote Address.
