Acts 4 Ministry will welcome donations during the 2022 “Give Local Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills” fundraising online campaign from 7 a.m. Tuesday, April 26 through 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27. During the 36-hour online-only fundraiser, each dollar donated to Acts 4 will be enhanced with bonus funds donated to the non-profit organization by the event host, the Connecticut Community Foundation, and their ‘Give Local’ sponsors, and position Acts 4 to win cash prizes. Introduction to Figure Drawing

The Mattatuck Museum is excited to kick off the first of the four-week art class series with an Introduction to Figure Drawing course. Taught by an experienced sketch artist, participants will learn the basics of what it takes to draw the human form and get the chance to practice their skills, including sketching real models in the last two classes. Materials will be provided, although participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own preferred supplies. A supply list will be provided upon registration. Cocktails and Curators: Two for the Road with Eric Denker and Keffie Feldman

Mattatuck Museum Chief Curator, Keffie Feldman and Exhibition Guest Curator, Eric Denker will examine and tour the exhibition Two for the Road. Eric Denker is the Senior Lecturer at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. With over 100 works in this exhibition that follow Ernest Roth and André Smith’s travels throughout Europe, Denker will tell all about the adventures of these two printmaking friends. Map-Making 101
Saturdays, May 7 & 21, 3:00–5:00 PM
Price: $50 for both sessions | $30 for one session
In this two-part adult art workshop at the Mattatuck Museum, learn about the fundamentals of map-making and get the chance to practice on a small scale. In the second class, participants will be able to create a detailed map with the location of their choice. Nuovo Retro: New Beginnings with New World Trio

Join New World Trio, a Hartford-based ensemble, as they perform “Nuovo Retro: New Beginnings”. “Sweet Prospect”, a beautiful piece from composer Stephen Gryc, opens this program and is drawn from traditional New England shape note singing, reminiscent of traditional hymns and melodies. Followed by three evocative movements from David Baker’s “Roots II”, they reflect a deep historical legacy, one that is sobering yet triumphantly uplifting. The program concludes with a well-known work from composer Robert Schumann in the best European tradition—and it is a piano quartet!

This program at the Mattatuck Museum is for people with early-to-mid-stage dementia and their caregivers, at no cost. Medical researchers have found that people with early-to-mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease are positively impacted by the therapeutic effects of viewing historical artifacts and discussing art. Come to the Mattatuck Museum and join the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter as we virtually explore the Museum’s collection while connecting with others who are also living in the beginning stage of Alzheimer's or other dementia. Art + Yoga = Relaxation

Come to the Mattatuck Museum on the first Saturday of every month for a yoga class that combines physical exercise and art to shake off the week. With a certified yoga teacher, Lisa Davis, practice poses that help your body to release tension, calm your nervous system, and restore an overall sense of balance to your body, mind, and soul. Afterwards, engage in a guided mindfulness meditation practice using artwork on view in the Museum galleries. This practice will teach participants to look at art with a calm and focused attention, allowing them to see what is visually present. Pose modifications will always be shared so that everyone, regardless of fitness level, will feel safe and comfortable participating in the class. The Mattatuck Museum is excited to announce that it will be hosting the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for the 5th district. All submissions will be on view from May 7 to May 22, 2022. A reception will be held on Monday, May 23 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM to celebrate the students whose work is included in the exhibition. Congresswoman Jahana Hayes will attend the reception.
Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in collaboration with the Congressional Institute. The competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our Congressional District.
The Mattatuck Museum will be celebrating the 13th Annual Brass Button Award on Wednesday, September 14 honoring community leaders Joe and Debra Gugliotti.
The Brass Button Award recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals to the greater Waterbury area and their lifelong engagement with social and cultural enrichment. This year, the Mattatuck Museum proudly honors Joe and Debra Gugliotti for their years of devoted service in our community.

Main Street Waterbury 12th Annual Stephen R. Sasala II Community Partnership Scholarship Applications Now Open for Area High School Students |

All students who plan on majoring in the fields of Political Science, Economics, Sociology, and Urban Studies are eligible and encouraged to apply. To submit an application, the student must be a high school senior, residing in the Greater Waterbury area, and attend one of the following schools Crosby, Kennedy, Wilby, Waterbury Arts Magnet, WF Kaynor Tech, Waterbury Career Academy, Holy Cross, Naugatuck, Wolcott, Watertown, Pomperaug, Woodland, or Nonnewaug.
In addition to qualifying to the above requirements, students must also enclose:
- High School transcripts (students must possess a GPA of a 3.0 or higher)
- List of leadership, community activities (describing any leadership roles) and work experience
- Two letters of recommendation
- One question answered as their essay of choice
The Stephen R. Sasala II Community Partnership Scholarship is in the memory of the late Stephen R. Sasala (former Main Street Waterbury Board Chairman) and his legacy as a partnership builder and community leader.

Connecticut Community Foundation Names Wanda Correa as New Vice President of Community Impact |

WATERBURY, CT – The Board of Trustees of Connecticut Community Foundation announced the appointment of Wanda Correa as its vice president of community impact. Correa has extensive experience in public service in philanthropy, leadership development, legislative policy, and legal resolutions.
“As we searched for a vice president who would think creatively and work collaboratively to foster equitable opportunities and outcomes in our community, Wanda stood out immediately. She has tremendous experience in community philanthropy and an eye for how complex systems interact and can be shaped to make the community we serve stronger. We know she will help lead the Foundation into the future,” said Julie Loughran, president and CEO of Connecticut Community Foundation.
Correa joined the Foundation following a rigorous selection process that included a national search.
“I was struck by the Foundation’s mission, vision and values and how that translated into equity and inclusion so that all residents of Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills have what they need to thrive,” said Correa. “I will be focusing on grantmaking, community leadership and evaluation and I am excited to be working with a talented and passionate group of colleagues.”
Correa will be working as collaborative, creative, and strategic leader to direct the Foundation’s programmatic work. Her top priorities include working closely with community partners, connecting resources across organizations and funders, mobilizing and convening nonprofit and community partners, and supporting and engaging in advocacy in support of the Foundation’s mission.
Correa brings a range of skills and experiences to the position. She is a graduate of the American University, Washington College of Law, where she received her Juris Doctor degree. She worked for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, for former Philadelphia City Council Member Angel L. Ortiz, and former Congressman Charles B. Rangel (N.Y.) in Washington, D.C. Upon moving to Connecticut, Correa served as director of the Hartford region’s largest community leadership development program focusing on collaborative leadership and social responsibility and led various nonprofit and municipal initiatives in the region. Prior to joining the Foundation, Correa was a senior community impact and senior development officer for the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. She led the development, implementation, and management of the Hartford Foundation’s groundbreaking Greater Together Community Funds, a program of town-based participatory grantmaking funds that promote inclusive civic engagement by allowing town residents to decide how grant dollars will be used in their communities. Correa now lives in West Hartford, Connecticut, with her family.

(CISA) website https://www.cisa.gov - Cyber Actors Target US Election Officials with Invoice Themed Phishing Campaign to Harvest Credentials.
In the CISA notification the FBI is warning US election and other state and local government officials about invoice themed phishing emails. Could be used to harvest officials’ login credentials providing cyber actors with undetected access to a victim’s systems.
Phishing used by Cyber “bad actors” e.g., individuals, organizations or nation states convince you to click on a link, download an attachment or provide sensitive information via email, text, or voicemail without verifying the legitimacy and identity first. Can be financial and reputational damage that occurs as a result of this.
The war in Ukraine underway there now has expanded to Cyberspace via phishing. That tactic may be expanded to the United States soon. FBI reported that hackers with Russian IP addresses have been scanning major US energy companies with potential cyberattacks. The Solar Winds and Colonial Pipeline hacking incidents in the recent past are examples of what be in store for us here now.

The FBI recently released their Internet Crime Report for 2021 and it’s a doozy. 2021 saw $6.9 billion in losses, up from $4.2 billion in 2020. Social engineering was the most reported incident with 323,972 criminal complaints filed. Business Email Compromise(BEC) was the category that caused the most loss totaling nearly $2.4 billion. A BEC is when a bad actor gains control of a legitimate business email account in order to carry out an unauthorized transfer of funds.
Ransomware attacks resulted in 3,729 complaints filed and losses came to $49.2 million. Ransomware is malware that locks your files, computer, or system up and bad actors demand payment in order to regain access. The most victimized industry is Healthcare (148 complaints filed) followed by Financial Services (89 complaints filed) and taking third is Information Technology (74 complaints filed). The ransomware group responsible for the most complaints is Conti.
Organizations need to have backup strategies in place as a way to counter ransomware. Patching of systems is key as updates close up security holes. Security awareness training is also key to reducing organizational risk.

The Western Connecticut Chapter volunteers are dedicated and anxious to share their broad mix of entrepreneurial, management and small business experience. They represent currently employed and retired executives, business owners and community leaders.
We offer a wide variety of on-line and in person workshops and webinars in addition to one-on-one client mentoring services. We typically conduct more than 600 private, confidential sessions, and over 40 live workshops/webinars each year.
