Brandywine Living Offers Bluegrass & Bourbon on the Back Patio (August 7)
Brandywine Living at Litchfield is proud to present Bluegrass & Bourbon, a distinguished bourbon tasting event featuring local blue grass talent and delectable, chef-prepared appetizers on the beautiful back patio of the Brandywine community.
Attendees will be able to enjoy Brandywine's signature "old fashion" cocktails, made with Litchfield Distillery’s unique bourbon, while enjoying the sounds of Bend in the River. Door prizes and drawings will top off the evening. Proceeds will be donated to the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary. This free networking event is open to the public and will take place from 5:30-7:30 pm on Wednesday, August 7th, 2019.

The Comedy of Errors - Free Public Performances   (August 7-11)
Shakesperience is offering free performances of The Comedy of Errors. The performance is part of their "Shakespeare in the Park" presentations; a fun night to enjoy plays and enjoy the summer weather. These performances take place Wednesday August 7-11, with a picnicking at 7 PM and the performances beginning at 7:30 PM.

Casino Day Fundraiser (August 10)
Enjoy a fun day for a cause with the Annie C. Courtney Foundation's Casino Day at Foxwoods Resort Casino! Each ticket includes a buffet food coupon and $15 slot play. Bus pickups in Danbury and Waterbury. Event lasts until 11PM.

Charcoal Chef Raffle Anniversary Raffle (August 10) and Woodstock Anniversary Celebration (August 15)
Charcoal Chef is celebrating their 63rd anniversary on August 10. This will entail a mystery raffle whose proceeds will go to a charity of the winner's choice and a menu item priced at their original 1956 price. 

On August 15, Charcoal Chef will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. If a customer comes in wearing 60's attire, they can have a free drink or dessert!  

La Bella Vista Monthly Dinner to Support LVGW (September 5)
La Bella Vista is having their monthly dinner on September 5th, which this month will support Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury. The dinner is a family-styled service, serving Pasta Fagioli, Pasta served with sides of Meatballs and Soffritto, Roasted Pork with Hot & Sweet Vinegar Peppers, Roasted Potatoes & Insalata. Red wine is included, dinner is $30 per guest.

Main Street Waterbury To Host 2019 Brass City Brew & ‘Que (September 7)
“Great Brews Plus Some BBQ” 

Main Street Waterbury will host their 14th annual fundraiser, the Brass City Brew & ‘Que on Saturday, September 7, 12:00 to 5:00 PM, rain or shine, at Library Park, 267 Grand St. in downtown Waterbury.

The 2019 Brass City Brew & ‘Que will showcase 125+ breweries and brewpubs and more than 250 domestic and international brews, live music by several bands, barbeque food vendors, pitmaster competitions, craft beer and barbeque seminars, Home Brewers Competition, Downtown Bartenders Showcase, and more.

Recently added breweries include Night Shift Brewing from Everett, MA; Kinsmen from Milldale, CT; and Founder’s Brewing from Michigan. Enjoy sampling over 275 brews alongside BBQ food trucks including Texas Roadhouse and Jonz N BBQ who will be attending the event for the first-time ever! Their Pit Master Competition is open to all attendees for viewing or join the fun with your own grilling team to win cash prizes!

Advance ticket purchases are highly-recommended for $35, tickets will be $40 at the gate. A Very Intimate Preview (VIP) Session will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM for an additional $10. State Farm Quotes for GoodTM Program to Benefit Southmayd Home
State Farm Agent Marta Nerin, 530 Middlebury Road, Ste. 103b, Middlebury, will sponsor Southmayd Home as the Quotes for Good nonprofit organization in August. For every referral sent to her office who completes an auto or fire quote – and mentions Quotes for Good and Southmayd’s name – the agency will donate $10 to Southmayd Home. For the quote to qualify, the individual cannot be a current State Farm customer, but they may refer family and friends.

Southmayd Home Finds Artistic Talent Among Contest Entrants
Southmayd Home’s first-ever birdhouse decorating contest was held during the annual Strawberry Social at 250 Columbia Boulevard in Waterbury on June 22. Residents and guests enjoyed live music, strawberry desserts, a chance to win raffle baskets and voting for their favorite birdhouse entries. Rae Lynn Giannaccio of Infinity Home Care (left photo), took first place with her highly detailed entry (center photo). Second place went to Ian Kindt, shown with his sister, Zoe (who took fourth place), while third place was awarded to 6-year-old Calyn Cooney. Winners received gift certificates for the Big Dipper in Prospect, donated by CarePartners of Connecticut, who sponsored the event in part. Generous cash or raffle basket item donations also came from Dave Graham of Trio Energy, Michele Federico of Arbonne beauty products, Infinity Home Care, Autumn Lake Healthcare at Bucks Hill and Deborah Cronin. “We are so grateful to our supporters and contestants, and for all the people who came out to help make it a wonderful day for our residents and the community,” said Laura Marsala, Southmayd’s outreach coordinator. “It was a lovely summer day, everyone had a great time and we already have several contestants planning their entries for next year.”

Wisdom House Retreat & Conference Center Welcomes New Program Director, Dr. Travis Tucker
Wisdom House is welcoming Travis Tucker, Ph.D. as program director of the organization that is celebrating its 70 year anniversary in 2019. An Interfaith Spiritual Retreat and Conference Center, Wisdom House presents programs open to the public year-round that celebrate the sacred in everyday life, the arts and ecology. In addition to numerous workshop and conference meeting spaces, throughout each year Wisdom House offers daily meals and overnight accommodations for academic, nonprofit, and business organizations from across the United States and the world.
Dr. Tucker offers nearly 30 years of experience in education, administration, and coaching. He is a former Associate Director of the Yale Center for Faith & Culture’s Ethics & Spirituality in the Workplace division. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale University in Philosophy and Religious Studies with a specialization in ethics and is a former Philosophy professor at the Universities of Hartford and New Haven.

Naugatuck’s Summer Youth Employment Program
Naugatuck’s Summer Youth Employment Program provides 14-21 year olds in the Naugatuck community with paid job training and experience AND provides local businesses and organizations with energetic young people who are excited to help them achieve their organization’s goals.

Each youth employee completes 3 days of orientation and training before they begin work at their respective worksites. Training covers: Youth Employment Program policies and procedures, basic workplace etiquette, first impressions, customer service, teamwork, communication , managing professional relationships & conflict resolution, personal finance, etc…

Northern CT Black Nurses Collaborate on Free 'Fall into Health' Fair
The Northern CT Black Nurses and The Ungroup Society in collaboration with Waterbury Hospital, ST. Mary's Hospital and other area providers will be hosting a free, city-wide "Fall Into Health" fair on October 12, 2019 at JONATHAN REED Elementary School; 33 Griggs Street, in Waterbury from 9am-1pm. Our purpose is to provide preventative services to our underserved population, as well as education on risk factors that lead to chronic illnesses, and awareness of the myriad of resources available.

This event will feature medical professional speakers, insurance navigators, drug/alcohol/behavioral workshops, and a variety of screenings: dental, vision, mammograms, prenatal, cholesterol, EKGs, etc., and so much more!
