Tonight: "I Wrote That" Author Talk Series featuring Susan Katz at the Palace Theater

On Tuesday, December 5th at 7:00 pm the Palace Theater in Waterbury presents internationally recognized poet, author, and teacher Susan Katz. Katz, a resident of Litchfield County, will be reading from her work and discussing the power and purpose of poetry. Her work has been cited as, “evoking a powerful sense of physical passion and deeply felt experiences”; “outspokenly erotic and sensual”; “terribly powerful…oddly strong … wonderful.” Tickets to this engagement are offered on a first come, first served basis and seating is limited. This event is made possible through the ongoing support of Rourke Insurance Agency, and Timothy W. & Mary Ellen Rourke.

For Katz “Poetry is the place I go to ask my questions and poetry is the place, where I have found my answers.” The evening promises to be a powerful exploration of poetry. Her most recent poetry collections published by Austin Macauley Publishers include The Limits of Light (2021), Dreaming Missouri (2022) and On the Edge (2023).

In addition to her three collections of poetry, Susan Katz has conducted poetry workshops for children and educators throughout the United States and Canada. Her poems have appeared in dozens of magazines, periodicals, and anthologies, and she has two co-authored textbooks with Orff Schulwerk Specialist, Judith A. Thomas, blending words and music, and illustrating creative ways to integrate the arts into school curriculums.

Tickets to this event are $20. Tickets may be purchased at the Palace Theater Box Office: 203-346-2000 or palacetheaterct.org. Signed copies of Dinova’s book can be purchased by cash or check.

If you’re not advertising, here’s why you should…..

Awareness - Customers can't call if they don't know you.

Preference – Become top of mind in your product category in the consumer’s mind. Just because they know you, it doesn't mean they will call you or buy from you.

Reinforce your company with existing customers - your competitors want your customers. It is easier to retain a customer than to replace a customer.

Persuade - You cannot force people, but you can persuade.

Remind them – The power of “frequency”. I am sure you know how much people forget. Keep reminding.

Retain & attract new employees - prospects aren't the only ones who see your ads.

Launch a new product/service - word of mouth just takes too long.

Control your message/Dispel rumors - You’re in control in telling your story!

Builds credibility - shows that you are a player - to your customers, prospects, and shareholders.

Maintain your market position - everyone is coming after you.

Assist your sales teams’ efforts: Shorten the sales process! Sell Deep – An Advertising message is a sales call.

Find the Buyers - influencers and teams constantly change.

Challenge your competitors - don't let them control the message in the market.

Simonetti Media Consulting can ensure that your advertising campaign generates revenue.

Some of our unique benefits:

Holiday Shopping Alert

You will see an increase in cyberattacks and spoofing online this Holiday season.

Brand phishing attempts from well-known global brands to established shipping companies phony notices of a delivery on its way that has a “problem” with it.

Another scam is complimentary highly discounted phony gift cards.

The University of California created a cybersmart shopper notice. Five tactics: “Conduct research, When in doubt throw it out, Protect your money, Get two steps ahead and Get savvy about Wi-Fi hotspots.”

Exercise caution while shopping, purchasing, and communicating while online this month.

News from Connecticut's Technical High Schools

Applications Open for Technical High School Admissions

Seeking Students Ready to Build Connecticut's Workforce Pipeline

By Dr. Ellen Solek, Executive Director, Connecticut Technical Education and Career System

As the Executive Director of the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS), I am thrilled to announce that applications for admissions are now open for grade 9 and 10 students looking to pursue a trade education starting in the fall of 2024. This represents an exciting opportunity for young individuals across Connecticut to embark on a path that can transform their lives and shape the future of our workforce.

Critical to achieving CTECS vision of becoming the primary pipeline for Connecticut’s skilled labor workforce is admitting students who have a genuine interest in pursuing a trade education. CTECS offers 31 different trade programs across our 17 high schools.

Connecticut's businesses and industries are constantly evolving, and they require a skilled workforce to remain competitive. By ensuring that admitted students have a genuine interest in trade education, we are laying the foundation for a workforce that is aligned with the demands of the job market.

Additionally, like many other states, Connecticut faces a significant skills gap in various industries. Admitting students with a true interest in trade education is a strategic step in addressing this gap. By preparing students for careers in the trades, we are ensuring a steady supply of skilled workers that Connecticut employers desperately need.

Perhaps the most notable outcome of admitting students who are genuinely interested in these fields is that they are more likely to excel in their studies, leading to better long-term success and careers they are passionate about.

I encourage all interested individuals to apply and embark on a journey that will not only lead to personal fulfillment but also contribute to Connecticut's economic prosperity. Together, we are building a stronger and more skilled workforce.

IT Update from Bill Becker of Bsquared Intel

With online threats ever evolving and taking victims for billions of dollars a year, one thing we collectively need is to improve our knowledge. We also need to understand, at a foundational level, what we’re getting ourselves into when we visit a website, install an app, or add that shiny new tech toy to our home/office networks. With the rise of harmful content online, we also need to be equipped with the knowledge and tools to help us understand the content we’re consuming. This is what our Web Digital Literacy course does.

If you’re looking for a gift for the learner in your life, or yourself, click this link to check out Bsquared Intel’s Web Digital Literacy course. If it’s a gift for someone, reach out to me directly to purchase and so I can generate the information that you’ll need for them to take the course.
