August 4: ACTS 4 Ministry Fundraiser Event at Ponte Club's La Bella Vista in Waterbury |

A family-style dinner to raise funds for the non-denominational non-profit organization Acts 4 Ministry, Inc., will be held at the Ponte Club’s La Bella Vista banquet facility at 380 Farmwood Road in Waterbury on Thursday, August 4 beginning at 6:30 PM with doors opening at 6:00 p.m.
A charitable organization, Acts 4 Ministry, Inc. assists individuals and families who have suddenly lost their homes to a fire, flood, or other unexpected devastation or upsetting life event. These individuals and families are invited to visit Acts 4 Ministry’s 1713 Thomaston Avenue boutique shop in Waterbury to select, at no charge, clothing, dishes, glassware, furnishings, and items to meet other basic daily living needs.
The dinner will include pasta Fagioli, an antipasto course, pasta with meatballs and soffritto, roasted chicken limone broccoli rabe and oven-roasted potatoes, and an Italian mixed salad. Bottles of red wine will be served at each table. The cost is $35/person, a portion of which will go directly to Acts 4 Ministry. Checks at the door should be made payable to the Ponte Club.

Enjoy the Mattatuck Museum’s collection and special changing exhibitions in a safe and comfortable environment. Private tours are also available. On Wednesday, July 20, there will be a special tour of the Museum’s summer exhibitions which will include, Shipwrecks: Duty of Memory, The Garden, and Mystery & Benevolence: Masonic and Odd Fellows Folk Art. These exhibitions offer a variety of subject matter from photographs of abandoned ships around the world, to abstract elements of nature, to the historic folk art of two fraternal organizations.

Stuffed Animal Slumber Party

Ever wonder what your stuffed animals do once you go to sleep? Wear your pj’s, bring a stuffed friend, and experience a fun-filled evening at the Mattatuck Museum! Take a short tour of the galleries and then paint a portrait of your stuffie. You’ll head home while your stuffed friends party the night away with a whole lot of fun activities. Come to the Mattatuck Museum on the first Saturday of every month for a yoga class that combines physical exercise and art. With a certified yoga teacher, Lisa Davis, practice poses that help your body to release tension, calm your nervous system, and restore an overall sense of balance to your body, mind, and soul. Afterwards, engage in a guided mindfulness meditation practice using artwork on view in the Museum galleries. This practice will teach participants to look at art with a calm and focused attention, allowing them to see what is visually present. Pose modifications will always be shared so that everyone, regardless of fitness level, will feel safe and comfortable participating in the class. Mike will be providing a fresh perspective on the flood, mixing in the story of famous A-lister Rosalind Russell, who was in Waterbury at the time, as well as his own recollections and experience with it. Mary Rogers Williams: Defying Her Era’s Expectations

Kahn, an independent scholar and Antiques columnist for The New York Times, at the Mattatuck Museum to learn how one research phone call in 2012 led to her prizewinning book, Forever Seeing New Beauties: The Forgotten Impressionist Mary Rogers Williams, 1857-1907 (Wesleyan University Press, 2019). Revolutionary artist Mary Rogers Williams (1857-1907), a baker’s daughter from Hartford, lived an extraordinary life. She biked and hiked from the Arctic Circle to Naples, exhibited from Paris to Indianapolis, trained at the Art Students League, chafed against art world rules that favored men, wrote thousands of pages about her travels and work, and taught at Smith College for nearly two decades, but sadly ended up in relative obscurity. New Opportunities Inc ‘s Meals on Wheels Program currently prepares over 5,700 meals each week for its’ home delivery, or congregate-meal-sites throughout the agency’s 26 town coverage area, as well as New Haven and Fairfield County. Inflation, COVID-concerns and skyrocketing fuel prices have brought a record number of new subscribers to the popular food program.
New Opportunities’ Senior Nutrition Director, Yadira Perez recently launched a new “public information effort” that enables area business entities to rent commercial signage-space on the program’s large fleet of delivery vehicles. Area businesses can also rent the Meal Program’s popular, “Food Truck” for special events and promotions.
Perez says the program is designed as an “inexpensive marketing tool” for regional businesses and a Meals Program fund raiser.” “Those who have signage with us have had good success,” she said, “and our Food Truck rentals have become a popular focal point for special events throughout the region.’

Business email compromise (BEC) attacks are a type of cyber criminal behavior striking businesses, government and organizations. They use spoofed or phony emails that authorize action or instructions which can negatively affects the target like an invoice scam or gather confidential data that can be used for illegal actions.
While recent ransomware attacks have caught the public attention such as the Colonial Pipeline and JBS (the world’s largest meatpacking corporation) BEC activities are more profitable says the FBI as “bad actors” and are moving towards using those tactics instead.
Those entities affected by BEC will suffer not only financial losses but reputational as well.
The BEC attacks use social engineering techniques to convince their target to act on their behalf without regard to the consequences that may result due to it.
Wombat a cybersecurity firm believes that up to 90% of breaches can be avoided with quarterly employee training on cyber security awareness.

At the end of May this year Verizon released it’s annual Data Breach Investigations Report. The trend is the same as the last few of their reports in that roughly 80% of the data breaches they saw were perpetrated by external threat actors. Of these breaches, over 80% were financially motivated.
The top way data breaches occurred was hacking web applications and the top action used that allowed bad actors in was through the use of stolen(hacked) login credentials.
A couple of tips:
- Assure software, code, and hardware are up to date.
- Ensure that proper authentication is tested and implemented.
