March 11: Civic Day in Southbury
Southbury, CT – On Saturday, March 11th from 1:00pm – 3:00pm the Town of Southbury will hold a Civic Day as part of its year-long 350th anniversary celebration. The event is free with registration and will take place inside Southbury’s Town Hall at 501 Main Street South.

Special guest, David K. Merrill, painter and Southbury resident, will speak and provide a personal tour of his large-scale mural that has graced the stairwell in Town Hall since 1978. The mural depicts forty-two scenes of Southbury through the seasons and was his first of many he painted for municipalities throughout the area, along with thousands of individual paintings. Following the tour, the painter will be on hand to sign a book about his work, available for purchase at the event with all proceeds going to charity. Images from his Southbury mural will also be available as notecards, benefitting the Southbury Historical Society.

Town Historian, John Dwyer and former Town Clerk of Southbury Lynn Dwyer, will present “Historical Events Impacting Southbury Government: Tales from the Town Journals” on the influence key historical events, such as the Civil War and WWII, had on government. First Selectman Manville will join in on governing though the pandemic, as well as providing some introductory remarks at the event.

Guests will also be led on tours throughout Town Hall, with information on each department area, a highlight being a visit to the Town Vault, within the Town Clerk’s office. The Vault contains memorable artifacts and historic documents of the Town of Southbury.

Following the tours, there will be a meet and greet, with opportunities for voter registration and to volunteer to serve on Town boards and commissions. Refreshments will be provided by Nardelli’s of Southbury.

The Town of Southbury is holding events and activities all year long to celebrate 350 years of community, culture and history (1673-2023), aimed at highlighting the past and progress of the one and only Southbury. The 350th Anniversary Steering Committee is co-chaired by John Dwyer and Kevin Bielmeier, with vice-chair Brian Jones, Justin Bette, Lynn Dwyer, Melinda Elliott, Michael Ganem, Kara Kenney, Mary Korsu, and Gosia Liedlich.

March 30: The Exchange Club of Waterbury/Waterbury Regional Chamber Membership Recruitment Event at Fascia's Chocolates
The Exchange Club of Waterbury and the Waterbury Regional Chamber are co-sponsoring a new member recruitment event at Fascia’s Chocolates on Thursday, March 30 from 5:30pm – 7:30pm at 44 Chase River Road Waterbury.

Those attending will learn about the Exchange Club’s programs and the support they provide to reduce child abuse. In addition, attendees will learn how the Waterbury Regional Chamber provides opportunities for businesses to grow; through networking events, targeted marketing programs, essential resources like the HR Council as well as their important advocacy work.

Charter Oak State College: April Open House Events for Online Undergraduate and Graduate Degree Programs

Thank you for allowing us to partner with you in the care of your loved one. Please join us as we continue the conversation about grief through our Bereavement Support Group. 
 
**If you have experienced the death of a loved one recently, we invite you to attend our Bereavement Support Group. We will meet twice monthly to discuss relevant topics, followed by time for networking and sharing. Each group will run for three months at a time, with an opportunity to develop a breakout group for those with longer-term bereavement needs. Please call to register, Chaplain Jeh Choon You, Bereavement Coordinator, at 860-763-6300. Sign-ups are requested, as light

Waterbury Mayor Neil O'Leary Named to Power 50 List
As a testament to his vision and redevelopment efforts, Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary has been selected to the 2023 Power 50 List by Hartford Business Journal (HBJ).
 
Excerpts from the HBJ article say, “He courted allies in Washington, D.C., and Hartford, securing tens of millions of dollars to begin clearing away some of the city’s most prominent abandoned industrial complexes. The city has spent heavily upgrading streets and underground utility infrastructure… [and] the O’Leary administration has also made strides clearing a 17-acre site that once hosted the Anamet industrial complex.”
