October 16: Watertown Foundation 99th Annual Meeting Dinner; Historic Watertown Family Philanthropy Continues

Marian Woodward Ottley 1884-1974

Mrs. Ottley was born in the family home on DeForest Street in Watertown, only daughter of

David and Helen Woodward. Married to John King Ottley and residing in Georgia throughout their lifetime, they continued the family tradition of summering in Watertown.

Known as a “Philanthropist” throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Ottley enjoyed donating her wealth for the benefit of others, inheriting this role from both her mother and father. Her father, David Woodward a successful businessman in the Atlanta area, amassed a substantial fortune, sharing it generously during his lifetime in both the Atlanta and Watertown communities. In Watertown we are fortunate to be the recipients and good stewards of the Watertown Foundation, started by David Woodward in 1925.

It is a fitting tribute to her parents, that upon her death in 1974, Marian Woodward Ottley, in accordance with her will, established the David, Helen and Marian Woodward Fund in loving memory of her parents, and in her words, “In order to carry out their wishes and mine in attempting to make this a better world for those who come after us”. The Woodward Fund continues to support non-profit organizations in both Atlanta and Watertown.

Marian Ottley is buried in the Woodward Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery next to her mother and father.

About the Watertown Foundation

Founded in 1925, the Watertown Foundation will soon be celebrating 100 years of community service. This legacy of giving continues today through the support of programs and initiatives that touch the lives of thousands of people in the Watertown and Oakville community. To learn more—and to join—please visit www.watertownfoundation.com.

99th Annual Dinner Meeting of the Watertown Foundation

The October 16th meeting will commence with a 5:30 p.m. business meeting for Watertown Foundation members, followed by a cocktail reception and dinner program for all attendees at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $60 each with a cash bar.
